Good morning to all freeper movie afficianados and participants in our Freepathon "Memorable Movie Moments".
The contest closed last night. At the moment, your contest hostess, Louella Parsons (moi), is enjoying a mahvelous breakfast at Tiffany's. Seated at my dining table are my very good silver screen friends, Virginia Mayo, Sir Cedrick Hardwick, Joan Blondell, Ann Sheridan, Harold Lloyd, Terry-Thomas and George Brent.
Then back to my estate in the Hollyweird Hills to judge the entries in the contest. They will be posted early evening, so stay tuned.
Mmmmm, eggs a la Maria Ouspenskaya..... fabulous!
Later, Louella

Whaaaa???
Harold Lloyd!
and Buster Keaton wasn't invited?
Don't get me wrong. Harold is a comic genius too...
But why wasn't Buster there?

My favorite was Charlie Chase (don't shoot me!).
He actually got less credit than he was due. He was the master of comic embarrassment, mostly playing a hapless, nerdy but dapper guy.
His films are undergoing a revival among silent comedy buffs as many of them are timeless and, in an odd way, relevant today.
He's underrated among the comedians of the silent era. His comedic sense of timing and the visual was often brilliant.
TCM shows some of his films and comic shorts every once in a while.
He sadly passed away at age 46 from heart problems brought on by chronic alcoholism.

IMHO
Buster Keaton is #1
I would say both Harold Lloyd and Charlie Chase would rank a #2
I would put Chaplin at #3
(Now I'm gonna get shot for putting the "great" Chaplin at 3. LOL)

I think "favorites" and "the best" are two different things. I still have to place Chaplin as the all-time best. He was a genius.
One has to know how to watch Chaplin to note his talent. Observe the next time, not the whole of the earlier Charlie, but his parts. His hands, arms, legs, fingers, feet are always doing something. He's adjusting his tie, batting his eyes, moving his mustache, twirling his cane, doing something with his hat, pursing his lips, changing his walk, cocking his head, drooping his shoulders.......sometimes all in one 20-second silent sequence!
No other comedian had this multi-faceted talent.
My favorite is Charlie Chase, but the other Charlie was and still is the one-and-only best of show.
IMHO, of course.

Well, thankee, pardner!
Does that heart in the photo read "I Love Lady"?
You have a wonderful graphic for every occasion, my dear.
Yours from my Hollywood home next door to the home of Will Rogers, recently elected as the first mayor of Beverly Hills,

I'll go along with your description of Chaplin. But Keaton is the king of "deadpan" and the undisputed king of the pratfall. Nobody before or since Keaton could take a fall like he could.
Heck fire. That's how he got the nickname "Buster" bestowed on him by his godfather, Harry Houdini.
Buster thought up and did all of his own stunts. He never worked with a double. He was still taking falls when he was 70 years old.
Some of the stunts he introduced to films are still being used by comics even today.
He was a great innovator.
Damfinos Forever!
Yea!

Me Too! Still do.

ABBOTT and COSTELLO:
Costello Buys A Computer
Remember ABBOTT and COSTELLO Jokes? Hope you enjoy this one. In today's world, Bud ABBOTT and Lou COSTELLO's famous sketch "Who's on first?" might have turned out something like this....
COSTELLO CALLS TO BUY A COMPUTER FROM ABBOTT . . . .ABBOTT: Super Duper computer store. Can I help you?
COSTELLO: Thanks.I'm setting up an office in my den and I'm thinking about buying a computer.
ABBOTT: Mac?
COSTELLO: No, the name's Lou.
ABBOTT: Your computer?
COSTELLO: I don't own a computer.I want to buy one.
ABBOTT: Mac?
COSTELLO: I told you, my name's Lou.
ABBOTT: What about Windows?
COSTELLO: Why? Will it get stuffy in here?
ABBOTT: Do you want a computer with Windows?
COSTELLO: I don't know. What will I see when I look in the windows?
ABBOTT: Wallpaper.
COSTELLO: Never mind the windows.I need a computer and software.
ABBOTT: Software for Windows?
COSTELLO: No. On the computer!I need something I can use to write proposals, track expenses and run my business. What have you got?
ABBOTT: Office.
COSTELLO: Yeah, for my office. Can you recommend anything?
ABBOTT: I just did.
COSTELLO: You just did what?
ABBOTT: Recommend something.
COSTELLO: You recommended something?
ABBOTT: Yes.
COSTELLO: For my office?
ABBOTT: Yes.
COSTELLO: OK, what did you recommend for my office?
ABBOTT: Office.
COSTELLO: Yes, for my office!
ABBOTT: I recommend Office with Windows.
COSTELLO: I already have an office with windows! OK, lets just say I'm sitting at my computer and I want to type a proposal. What do I need?
ABBOTT: Word.
COSTELLO: What word?
ABBOTT: Word in Office.
COSTELLO: The only word in office is office.
ABBOTT: The Word in Office for Windows.
COSTELLO: Which word in office for windows?
ABBOTT: The Word you get when you click the blue "W".
COSTELLO: I'm going to click your blue "w" if you don't start with some straight answers. OK, forget that. Can I watch movies on the Internet?
ABBOTT: Yes, you want Real One.
COSTELLO: Maybe a real one, maybe a cartoon. What I watch is none of your business. Just tell me what I need!
ABBOTT: Real One.
COSTELLO: If it's a long movie I also want to see reel 2, 3 & 4. Can I watch them?
ABBOTT: Of course.
COSTELLO: Great! With what?
ABBOTT: Real One.
COSTELLO: OK, I'm at my computer and I want to watch a movie. What do I do?
ABBOTT: You click the blue "1".
COSTELLO: I click the blue one what?
ABBOTT: The blue "1".
COSTELLO: Is that different from the blue w?
ABBOTT: The blue "1" is Real One and the blue "W" is Word.
COSTELLO: What word?
ABBOTT: The Word in Office for Windows.
COSTELLO: But there's three words in "office for windows"!
ABBOTT: No, just one. But it's the most popular Word in the world.
COSTELLO: It is?
ABBOTT: Yes, but to be fair, there aren't many other Words left. It pretty much wiped out all the other Words out there.
COSTELLO: And that word is real one?
ABBOTT: Real One has nothing to do with Word. Real One isn't even part of Office.
COSTELLO: STOP! Don't start that again. What about financial bookkeeping? You have anything I can track my money with?
ABBOTT: Money.
COSTELLO: That's right. What do you have?
ABBOTT: Money.
COSTELLO: I need money to track my money?
ABBOTT: It comes bundled with your computer.
COSTELLO: What's bundled with my computer?
ABBOTT: Money.
COSTELLO: Money comes with my computer?
ABBOTT: Yes. No extra charge.
COSTELLO: I get a bundle of money with my computer? How much?
ABBOTT: One copy.
COSTELLO: Isn't it illegal to copy money?
ABBOTT: Microsoft gave us a license to copy money.
COSTELLO: They can give you a license to copy money?
ABBOTT: Why not? THEY OWN IT!
A FEW DAYS LATER . .
ABBOTT: Super Duper computer store. Can I help you?
COSTELLO: How do I turn my computer off?
ABBOTT: Click on "START"..........

Yeah, I remember that one. Most remembered is “Who’s on First,” which many of their later routines emulated.

Classic - heard it a million times and it is still funny. And that is what makes it a classic.

You got that right. Some things never go out of style. “Who’s on first” is one of ‘em.
