the more it looks like young Barack will win Deomcrat nomination, the less attractive old John will be.

It is pretty pathetic for America to have come to the point that it chooses the President of the United States based on age or looks.

Fred Thompson would have been toast on looks.

Ronald Reagan would have been toast on age.

By that criteria, Romney's Ken Doll looks are clearly the way to go for us.

You’re right - we certainly shouldn’t select a candidate based on looks alone.

But the electorate has proven to be untrustworthy when seeking out facts about a candidate. Instead, they rely on what the MSM pushes at them. I doubt whether anyone knows Obama’s positions on anything; the media has just been pushing that he’s an agent of change and that he’s “inspirational” (but what he inspires is unknown)!

So if that’s what we’re facing, we may as well do so with a nice looking guy who professes to be a conservative. Many conservatives will vote for Romney because we believe him to be closest aligned with us ideologically, and others (who can be swept away by “charm”) may select him because of his looks. So if he can beat the dem because of his looks, that’s OK I guess. Whatever it takes to keep the dems out of power.

but that's how superficial and non-thinking we've become as a nation in just a short time. An FDR with the visible disability wouldn't be electable at all in this day and age. Although Bob Dole did run with an incapacitated arm. I wonder if that affected his losing?

There is a wise basis underlying such judgments. Voters want to be reassured that the person they elect to the presidency will have the physical, mental, and emotional stamina and strength to cope with the vigors and extreme challenges of the job. It isn't the only thing voters car about, but it is an important factor. And it should be.

This is not about looks. This is about conservative voters supporting Romney’s conservative agenda vs McCain’s RINO record and agenda.

Romney leads 42% to 22% among conservative voters while McCain leads 43% to 25% among moderates.

Immigration is seen as the top issue by just 12% of Florida’s Likely Republican Primary Voters, but they overwhelmingly favor Romney over McCain by a 63% to 7% margin. Huckabee picks up 16% of those who consider immigration the top priority.

Eighty-five percent (85%) of Huckcabee’s supporters are either certain they will vote for him or have already voted. Eighty percent (80%) of Romney’s supporters are that “certain” along with 79% of Giuliani voters and 72% of those who support McCain.

Romney is now seen as the most electable Republican candidate—76% believe he would be at least somewhat likely to win the White House if nominated.
