But now, of those left standing (or leaning as one wise FReeper noted), I will go with Romney. That's about where I am now. It is also where Rush and Laura Ingraham seem to be leaning.
I think Romney/Thompson would beat all comers.

Hope Romney has the sense enough to choose him.

Romney/Thompson would be the best possible conservative ticket at this point, with any hope for pulling the GOP together and conersvative independents and democrats.
I hope Romney can get that together...and pray Thompson does not support McCain...IMHO it would be putting his senatorial comraderie ahead of principle and I would lose respect for him if he did.

abortion is a very volatile and personal issue. i changed my position on this myself, years ago. i feel disgusted that i even thought the way i did.
i just despise it when people judge like this. it seems to me, if romney did change to a pro life position out of purely political reasons, he's got more resistance to face down than the other way. it's a hard way to go.
i don't know why we can't just believe people, when there has been no actual circumstance to contradict their stated beliefs.
becoming pro-life is a journey, for some, not a position.

Romney/Steele would be even better.
(Can you just imagine the Clintonians attack machine with that ticket???)

I think Romney/Thompson would beat all comers. Would Thompson give Mitt bonafide conservative gravitas, a la Dick Cheney?
