Howard Dean had similar thoughts - "Dean also suggested that computer makers such as Apple Computer, Dell, Gateway and Sony should be required to include an ID card reader in PCs--and Americans would have to insert their uniform IDs into the reader before they could log on. "One state's smart-card driver's license must be identifiable by another state's card reader," Dean said. "It must also be easily commercialized by the private sector and included in all PCs over time--making the Internet safer and more secure.""

I don't think his use of “get online” was directed to internet use. I think it was more along the lines of get on-track.

Iron Maiden - The Prisoner
I’m on the run kill to eat
You’re starving now you’re dead on your feet
Going all the way nature’s beast
Do what I want and do as I please
Run fight to breathe it’s tough
Now you see me now you don’t
Break the walls I’m coming out
Not a prisoner I’m a free man
And my blood is my own now
Don’t care where the past was
I know where I’m going ... out
If you kill me it’s self defense
If I kill you then I call it vengeance
Spit in your eye I will defy
You’ll be afraid when I call out your name
Run fight to breathe it’s tough
Now you see me now you don’t
Break the walls I’m coming out
Not a prisoner I’m a free man
And my blood is my own now
Don’t care where the past was
I know where I’m going ... out
I’m not a number I’m a free man
I’ll live my life how I want to
You’d better scratch me from your black book
Cos I’ll run rings round you

I know ID’s are used to log into some secure networks. I use on at work. It just seems a little bizarre that he would be trying to say we need a national ID to privately use the Internet.

Welcome to the United Soviet States of Amerika.
This is what happens, people, when you don't vote your conscience but allow yourself to be duped into voting for anti-constitutional big government RINOs who don't give a rat's ___ about the people, the constitution and our civil liberties.
One of the 8 Republicans who DIDN'T vote for the national ID card is Ron Paul. The only candidate worthy of a vote.

He is specifically talking about getting online i.e. the internet, email, etc. It has been his stated position for almost a decade.
To: af_vet_rr
I wonder when people will realize that the Bible talked about this and they did not believe it would happen. Under the COMPLETLY FALSE argument that “following the rules” and “Citizenship” Sheeple will turn over the entirety of their lives, freedoms and futures into the hands of people who will very soon afterwords do unspeakable evil.

But then couldn’t someone just cut off your hand, and frame you for internet crime? Or couldn’t you commit all sorts of internet crimes, then cut your own hand off as an alibi? Or couldn’t someone just take a photo of your barcode, then print up a... ah well. We’d just have to put that barcode in a super-special, secret spot.

Close minded unpragmatic idealist like you killed Rudy. He had the most experience, the best track record, the best appeal to a cross section of the American middle class. His record as the mayor of America’s largest city (5% of America’s GNP) the resurgance after 9-11 and his pedigree as District Attorney appointed by Reagan- all torpedoed by the “true conservatives” who used abortion as a litmus test. Abortions WILL NOT be made illegal by ANY POTUS. It is a personal choice and will remain. Too bad the true conservatives are so ASS-holier than thou that they have given the White House to an inexperienced senator from Illinios or allowed the wife of a convicted perjeror from Arkansaw to run. Shame on all of you. You really think Evangellical Christian Conservatives have a chance in a national election after 35 years of feminism, gay rights and a deluge of illgal aliens? People like you have given the whole circus away and have he gall to stand on a high horse. Hope you can stomach Hillary/ Obamma for 4 years, douche bag. Before you flame me I’ve been a member since 2001 and have always supported W.

Civil forfeiture law.
Gun Control.
First Amendment Issues (like brought up in this article for example)
His worldview is that of a prosecutor.
His attempting swindling of the 9/11 emergency response deceaseds’ widows and orphans fund.
So far Guiliani has come out against the long standing interpretation of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 7th and 9th Amendments of the Bill of Rights. But hey, 4 out of 10 inalienable Rights ain’t bad, right buddy?

He didn’t ban guns in NYC, it’s been that way for decades. You prolly never lived in NYC to understand the culture so your opinion is prolly uniformed and about as meaningful as a Doonsberry comic.

Just what do you know of conservatives?
If you know anything at all about us, you should know that Rudy is 180 degrees out of phase with practically all of our ideals, abortion is but one of them.
He is anti gun, anti marriage, pro illegal immigration, just to name a few.

What a pity that adults here are too stupid to realize that NYC doesnt have the respect and gun culture that TX has and that legalizing guns in NYC would just make it so every would be crook youd have an AK-47 and every well meaning liberal brownstone owner from Connecticut would be dead meat. I Know- Too big a concept to be absorbed by people livinge in the gun-rich, happy hunting crowd below the Mason-Dixon. So stupid that they don’t know what they’re talking about and pre-judge the mostavantr gaurd,multi- cultural, political, international, multi-racial city in America ( That generates 1/5 of every dollor of our GNP and is the face of the US to the World) By people who eat Nutria and enjoy Copenhagen here on this site. Pathetic!
You a-holes have guaranteed a democrat idiot in the White House.

He specifically means the internet? Where else has Rudy mentioned this?
I just interpreted "getting online" as having some kind a national ID database. Not accusing you of being wrong, I just haven't heard this before.

Yeah, I hate to see Rudy lose Florida. I'd like to see a three man race because honestly, they all deserve to go through the ringer so we can see who they really are.
And frankly, I don't see how Rudy is so much more liberal than McCain or Romney especially. He has a backbone and I think will play ball with Republicans. I don't see McCain doing that for sure.
To: ffusco
I hear Fred Thompson and Duncan Hunter are still on the ballot in NY. I wonder what candidate this will hurt the most? Probably Rudy.

I wish voters would give Rudy a second look too. The thought of a McCain victory rubs me the wrong way. With Rudy, we know where he stands. He won't be soft on Muslim crazies, that's for sure. He'll keep order here at home. We'll have lower taxes. And no broken windows.
Hell, I'm in.
To: ffusco
You a-holes have guaranteed a democrat idiot in the White HouseActually, the credit for that goes to the nits who decided to run all these damned liberals, call them front runners, and try to stuff them down the throats of every Conservative out here.
It isn't our fault the candidates stink. We have been howling for conservative candidates for a few decades now, and keep getting the tired mantra of 'you have to vote for _________, or the eeevil Democrats will win'.
Well, after all those years of voting for lesser evils, we have finally reached the point where there isn't much difference on most of the issues the rest of us find critical.
No skyscrapers within 200 miles of here, but I do have a rifle or two, and I aim to keep them.
Maybe if your well-meaning liberal brownstone owners from there to Connecticut got rifles and returned fire, the gangstas would get a real job.
As for generating 1/5 of every dollar in our GNP, if it wasn't done there, it would be done somewhere else.
But what is it exactly, you folks produce? Taylor Lake Country Red? Liberal politicians? Or are you taking the credit for producing what you sell? North Dakota wheat, Iowa Corn, West Texas Intermediate Crude oil, Nevada and South Dakota gold?
Brokering isn't generating.

Hey BushBot, wise up:
Rudy's failure to enforce immigration laws while Mayor of New York empowered and permitted a number of the 9/11 hijackers to work and prepare for their despicable deeds without fear of being identified and apprehended. That is established fact. Refer to the interview of Fred Siegel (big Rudy fan and author of 'Prince of the City') by Kathyrn Lopez in National Review in 2005 if you don't believe it.
And when you start babbling and whining about 'douche bags', be sure to include your fallen idol Rudy-Tooty, got it?
And it doesn't matter one good damn how long you've been here on FR.
Yeah, I think we're done here.
