I guess that they closed Shiraz airbase. Bushehr makes sense somehow because of the nuclear reactor and other stuff. The Iranian F-14’s standoff capability has been lost for a long tine

No Shiraz is still open. They fly their Su-24 Fencers from there. Noted on Google Earth.

The Iranian’s never lost the stand-off capability. A lot of hype has surrounded this issue. The Iranians were still knocking Iraqi aircraft out of the skies with both Phoenix and Sparrow long after the US support went.

The Iranians have also show a reverse-engineered Phoenix and also tested a modified Hawk SAMs from F-14s. Exercise videos exist of them toting Phoenix during exercises. Having served in the Gulf I can attest that the Iranian F-14s are still very much active and no strangers to Coaliton forces. They are still noted practising stand-off capability and generate healthy sortie rates. Remember that Bushehr is coast located and right in the yard of Coalition Gulf ops.

Iran has both Russia and China to assist them with their aerospace developments. If not directly government assisted then with freelance designers and engineers. Iran has the money to spend on such technology and info.
