..a liberal SBC conference and perhaps the birth of a new leftist denomination
The speaker's list is interesting--looks like Huck and some others were scared off--perhaps they were afraid the conservatives would find out...

showing their religious tradition is broader than the conservative SBC.
Translation: "We don't buy into all that sin and redemption stuff."

It has been brewing slowly for some time. The first whiff came in the late 1980s with some “progressive” churches. It grew when people started to really buy into the “If it feels good it MUST be okay” shtick.

This is the Protestant version of Liberation Theology. A vain attempt by man to create G-d in a PC image. There was a time when it was called blasphemy.

..many of these folks would have left the SBC 25 years ago if there had not been a mindset to have a "big tent"--if they all leave, that is a good thing
The Republican party can learn a lesson from this--or die...

Yep and I’ve always noticed that when churches reach to become relevant in a trendy sort of way they spin their wheels doing things like building habitat houses for those who drive $40,000 SUVs, push economics that make the real poor poorer, and push other empty-suit messages.
What the people of Central America really hunger for is the Gospel and what they get from Libs is condescending pablum. Food is not the problem in Central America. Honest upright Christians battling corruption and practicing real brotherhood and sisterhood are always in demand.

No headlines in doing things like fighting corruption though Monerrosa, these folks are so foolish and short sighted, they abandon the Gospel in favor of chasing politically shifting winds.
In places like Canada this has led to the destruction of entire parrishes and the watering down of Christianity.
These are the sort of folks Paul was speaking about.

“Social Justice” is a euphemism for taking money by threat of force from one group of people to give to another group of people.
Jesus NEVER taught that the problems of the poor should be addressed in this manner.
The Bible says that God loves a cheerful giver.
There are no cheerful givers among those who are forced to give under duress or by confiscation.
These people don’t read their Bibles.
“Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is Liberty!”
“The letter [of the law] killeth, but the spirit giveth life!”
To: padre35
Old Jimmy Carter and old Jesse Helms are both from the same denomination in the South but...what a difference in performance. Helms is the Rock of Gilbralter while Carter is the laughting stock of ineptitude.
The Liberation Theology subversion among Catholics and Protestants boils down to the same problem.
