Westboro Baptist Church To Protest LDS President's Funeral

LDS President Hinckley's funeral has been targeted as a protest site by members of the Westboro Baptist Church. Members of the Topeka, Kan., church have picketed several military funerals out of a belief that the war in Iraq is a punishment for the nation's tolerance of homosexuality. The group issued a press release Monday saying members will picket President Hinckley's funeral.

In 2007, a federal jury in Baltimore, Maryland, awarded $10.9 million to a father of a Marine whose funeral was picketed by members of the Westboro Baptist C

Church members showed up at the soldier's funeral chanting derogatory slogans and holding picket signs with messages including "God Hates Fags." They carried signs blaming soldiers' deaths on America's tolerance of homosexuals.

In June, three Westboro church members demonstrated a few blocks from the funeral of a South Jordan, Utah soldier. The protesters held signs displaying messages such as "pray for more dead soldiers."

I have one question for the leaders and congregation of the Westboro Baptist Church:

Is your God as prejudiced as you are?

I think these people go out of their way to be jerks. Not only are their actions disgusting, it embarrasses me that they call themselves Christians.

How can they afford the plane tickets? Don’t they owe $11 million?

This seems to be the only article on the ‘net about this, and it is mostly a blog. Got any other confirmation before I have my friends in SLC load up the rock salt (not literally)?

Individuals and groups have every right to peacefully protest but such shameless and bizarre disruptions of funeral services only proves that they really have no respect for the living or the dead. It would appear this “Christian” group is more motivated by hatred than love.

These animals take their young children with them to demonstrations. One could get hurt.

Fortunately nobody pays attention to them anymore. Their protests are no longer newsworthy.

And you just won the prize for a most astute observation...”they call themselves Christians.”

Anyone can call themselves anything they want to, but that doesn’t make them one.

They obviously are not CHRISTians because if they were; they wouldn’t be doing what they are doing — which is spreading hate.

They’re obviously protesting the Mormons’ strong support of homosexuality?

Its probably for the attention

But the funeral of a beloved church leader is not going to win them any brownie points

Okay, I see on the Westboro Baptist Church’s website, they have a PDF file about this, but don’t give their site any hits! It must suck to be them.

People like this would not exist - for long, if Dueling had never been made illegal...

Think about it...

In today’s society, there are no suitable legal consequences for the outrageous behavior of the a$$holes.

It’s hard to be religious when some people are not struck by lightning.
