Westboro Baptist Church To Protest LDS President's Funeral
http://www.gather.com/viewArticle.jsp?articleId=281474977244995 ^ | January 30, 2008 | Bob B

LDS President Hinckley's funeral has been targeted as a protest site by members of the Westboro Baptist Church. Members of the Topeka, Kan., church have picketed several military funerals out of a belief that the war in Iraq is a punishment for the nation's tolerance of homosexuality. The group issued a press release Monday saying members will picket President Hinckley's funeral.

In 2007, a federal jury in Baltimore, Maryland, awarded $10.9 million to a father of a Marine whose funeral was picketed by members of the Westboro Baptist C

Church members showed up at the soldier's funeral chanting derogatory slogans and holding picket signs with messages including "God Hates Fags." They carried signs blaming soldiers' deaths on America's tolerance of homosexuals.

In June, three Westboro church members demonstrated a few blocks from the funeral of a South Jordan, Utah soldier. The protesters held signs displaying messages such as "pray for more dead soldiers."

I have one question for the leaders and congregation of the Westboro Baptist Church:

Is your God as prejudiced as you are?

I think these people go out of their way to be jerks. Not only are their actions disgusting, it embarrasses me that they call themselves Christians.

Individuals and groups have every right to peacefully protest but such shameless and bizarre disruptions of funeral services only proves that they really have no respect for the living or the dead. It would appear this “Christian” group is more motivated by hatred than love.

Fortunately nobody pays attention to them anymore. Their protests are no longer newsworthy.

And you just won the prize for a most astute observation...”they call themselves Christians.”

Anyone can call themselves anything they want to, but that doesn’t make them one.

They obviously are not CHRISTians because if they were; they wouldn’t be doing what they are doing — which is spreading hate.

People like this would not exist - for long, if Dueling had never been made illegal...

Think about it...

In today’s society, there are no suitable legal consequences for the outrageous behavior of the a$$holes.

Not these whack-o's again.

After seeing the daughter on TV, I'm convinced these people are possessed.

Someone needs to have a Catholic priest go to their "protest" and begin an Exorcism. I bet they'd end up looking/acting like Linda Blair in the the movie.

I'm serious.

God Hates Sweden?? I don’t think so!!

I’m sure the almighty has plenty of reasons to be concerned about Sweden, but if God hated Swedes then how come he made their women so beautiful??

OK, maybe just to tempt them into more sinful behavior so they could all be destroyed by divine wrath??

Anyway, what a nutty website..... it’s about as surreal as DailyKos or DU.

I think it would be hillarious if Fred Phelps and entourage got on the TSA no fly list. It's quite a distance from Corpus Christi to Salt Lake city. It's really sick that Phelps and his "congregation" protested the funerals recently of the Navy personel killed the the helicopter crash at Petronila, Texas just west of Corpus Christi last week.
Here's Phelps' street address:

3701 W. 12th Street
Topeka, KS 66604-1730

Here is a link to a map of the street address.

I think Westboro makes a much better case for fewer lawyers than fewer Christians. Everyone of these idiots is a lawyer and believe me they practice law far more than they do Christianity. In fact, in my humble opinion they do not practice Christianity at all.

Thanks for the link. A truly classic site.

I especially enjoyed their theory that God hit Thailand with a tsunami to punish Sweden for its sins.

Apparently God not only hates fags, but he has lousy aim.

Phelps-Roper also criticized President Hinckley for being too accepting of homosexuals, accusing him of having an "ambiguous voice" about the gay lifestyle rather than taking a firm stand against it.

Actually the people from Massresistance are saying the same thing. Not to make this political and all...BUT...Massresistance and Fred Phelps were protesting side by side in 2005.

Massresistance and Fred Phelps are cut from the same cloth.

Who is funding Westboro “Baptist” “Church”? A full time career as agitators and the expense of cross country travel require some source of funding. I must wonder if Fred Phelps and his clan are not being funded by leftists as a gross parody of conservative Christians. Rather than investigating health and wealth Gospel merchants like Kenneth Copeland, Senator Grassley would better serve the country by investigating the Westboro gang.

They run a scam.

Fred & Co show up in your town and protest something.

Fred & Co get thier asses kicked.

Fred and Co sue the city, county, state for anything and everything because thier ‘rights’ were not protected.

One of these days they may not make it past the “get thier asses kicked” to sue..... not a prediction, just a guess.
