Eduardo Raul Morales-Soriano, who had pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated and causing a Thanksgiving Day 2006 crash that killed a Marine corporal and his date in Columbia, will have to stand trial after Howard County Circuit Judge Lenore R. Gelfman this morning rejected a plea agreement.
Gelfman said the deal, in which Morales-Soriano, an illegal immigrant, could have served a maximum of eight years, was not "adequate." Now that he will be going to trail, Morales-Soriano could be sentenced up to 20 years.
Morales-Soriano, 26, of the 6300 block of Sandy St. in Laurel, pleaded guilty to two counts of negligent manslaughter in September in the deaths of Cpl. Brian Mathews, 21, of Columbia, and Jennifer Bower, 24, of Montgomery Village.
Morales-Soriano, who authorities believe entered the country illegally from Mexico, slammed his Nissan Sentra into the back of the Toyota Corolla that Bower was driving. The car was stopped at a red light on Route 175 at the intersection of Route 108 in Columbia.
His blood-alcohol level was .32 percent, according to a police Breathalyzer test -- four times the legal limit.
Mathews, a 2003 Howard High School graduate, had come home for the holidays and was on his second date with Bower when the crash happened. He had finished serving eight months in Iraq in 2005 and was to leave the military last year.
Morales-Soriano had also been previously charged in other driving-related incidences in Prince George's and Howard counties, none of which resulted in convictions.
The incident added fuel to a debate about whether illegal immigrants should be issued licenses. Morales-Soriano used a license issued to him in North Carolina in 2004 to legally obtain a Maryland license the next year.

20 years, put him against the wall I will do the honors.
So for the next 20 years the US tax payer will support this POS?!?!?!
He should be shot and dumped on the Tex/Mex border.
This is crazy.

For the life of me I dont understand why the family members of the people killed by illegals dont sue the life out these municipalities and local govts. which foster, promote and allow this illegal activity to continue. The elected officials and the govts are at fault for not enforcing the law. Dozens of Americans are being murdered and raped every day by illegals and yet no law suits are filed against these cities, even after a perp has been repeatedly arrested.
four time the legal limit and three times what you need to be tipsy.
Sovereign immunity - One of the bet things aobut working for the government is that you never even have to admit that you made a moronic decision, and you never ever have to face consequences for your actions.
I've heard it theorized that sober people tend to brace for impact, and that a rigid body tends to suffer more injury in the collision. Meanwhile, the drunk is loose, rubbery, and not as affected by it. Not sure if this is scientific at all, just the only explanation I've heard.
Although a number of drunks do die in accidents.
Tragic consequences of illegal immigration running amok in full view of elected and appointed officials responsible for the security of this nation. Corporal Matthews survives a combat tour in Iraq only to be killed at the hands of an illegal invader to his homeland who had at least two other DUI charges in the United States, and NOT CONVICTED of either. Corporal Matthews blood lays at the feet of George Bush and every other pro-illegal immigration RINO that encourages this madness.
I’m getting old. The small picture of the young Marine brought tears to my eyes. Is there anything worse than a sentimental old man with tears in his eyes?
A drunk driver killed someone I loved 40 years ago on Jan 14, 1968, that may have something to do with it.
Actually he needs the death penalty but life in a Mexican prison where he must dress in pink underwear would be next best.
I am not to old,but I will always remember those who serve, and have served,to keep us free.
Electric chair - then throw the charred remains back over border.
I wonder if Bush will give the illegal a pardon?
