This is either a scandal of unbelievable proportions or a paranoid fantasy of unbelievable proportions.

Or else a sales pitch by someone who wants you to think that the price of gold is about to jump, and they just happen to have some you could buy buy buy right now.

Paranoia. Conspiracy theorists have been spreading these rumors for 60 years. Every so often they do an audit, and the next day, they are back at it, making the same allegations.

When you think about it, though, you wonder why we have the gold reserve to begin with. What good is it? Why not liquidate it and use the money to pay down the national debt? In order to be a scandal, it’s gotta be something bad. Selling off the gold reserve might be a good idea.

You can always count on gold brokers scaring people into buying from them. This has been par for the course for 25 years or more.

About GATA:

The Gold Anti-Trust Action Committee was organized in January 1999 to advocate and undertake litigation against illegal collusion to control the price and supply of gold and related financial securities. The committee arose from essays by Bill Murphy, a financial commentator, and by Chris Powell, a newspaper editor in Connecticut, published at Murphy’s Internet site.

They have been advocating a public audit of Ft Knox if my memory serves.

One useful thing you could do with gold is make magnum shotshell shot out of it, what with the insane ban on even copper-coated lead shot for waterfowl. I mean, “bismuth” and hevi-shot aren’t a whole lot less expensive than gold. In fact copper is the main ingredient of the medicine for lead-poisoning so that even if there was some magical duck or goose capable of chewing through a copper-coated lead pellet, he’d get the cure along with the disease and in theory at least it shouldn’t hurt him.

Well, "They" aren't doing a very good job. Gold is up over 300% in 5 years.

Our gold is not in Fort Knox?

I guess it was those tough emloyment contracts the guards, military, administraters, managers, truck drivers, etc. signed that forbid them from ever writing a book about when & how the gold disappeared and making a few million on the side for retirement............
