Okay... two cables cut in a close location I can believe as an accident on someones part. But a third cable cut almost a thousand miles away in the same week? Does this sound like sabotage to anyone else?

Let's jsut say that almost everyone in certain sensitive regions thinks so.

Internet traffic from India to countries like the U.S.

There goes all the U.S. customer service assistance for airlines, ISP, etc.

Sounds like the muzzies are trying to make sure that the people don’t have access to any thoughts other than those forced on them by their religious leaders.

Nah ... its a joint SEC/DOJ task force ... notice you have not gotten any emails from the spouses of former African dictators that have funds to launder and they need your assistance.

As accidential as two planes flying into the middle of the two WTC towers.

"I was thinking more along the lines of it being a cover for something else."

Yes...I was thinking that yesterday. Now, I'm not so sure.

Because for the outsourcing from US and UK to work there has to be connectivity.

And the headline "Internet in India slowed by Middle East outage" gave me the thought

Thanks for the information that a ships anchor cut two Internet cables.

I have seen these cables and they usually have steel armor rods wrapped around them so that they can be lifted and laid in water of great depth without the cable being ripped a part.

To "cut" one of these cables requires a lot of force like would be applied by a really big ship dragging an anchor or something really sharp-solid and heavy falling on a cable.

Basketball:

Arkansas Razorbacks vs. Florida at Arkansas Saturday evening.

Florida undefeated in the SEC East. Arkansas just won against
the up to then undefeated SEC West leader Miss. St. for second
place in the West.

A win by the Razorbacks against the East leader would mean an almost certain bid to the NCAA post-season.

Oh. I didn’t see that reference. I can see how you’d wonder about that.

Cheap & Cheerful ISP traffic and some voice service will be degraded but most corporate traffic has redundant capacity. It will be affected marginally.

SMW3 is still operating - it was the main cable between S and SE Asia until SMW4 was placed in service a couple of years ago. The “A Team” carriers - ATT, BT, Singtel, NTT, etc.- have capacity on multiple cables just to cope with instances like this.

The cables are especially vulnerable in areas where they approach shore - shallow water combined with lots of boat traffic are a bad mix.

While these cuts are newsworthy they are minor in comparison to the earthquake caused outage in Dec. 2006 off the east coast of China.
