Lauren Richardson Becomes Next Terri Schiavo as Parents Debate Euthanasia (Delaware)
LifeNews ^ | 2/1/2008 | Steven Ertelt

Posted on 02/01/2008 2:51:57 PM PST by Pyro7480

A Delaware woman has become the next Terri Schiavo as her parents engage in a massive legal and philosophical debate about whether to subject her to euthanasia. Richardson is a 23-year-old woman who overdosed on heroin in August 2006 while she was three months pregnant with a baby girl.

Doctors kept Lauren on life support until she delivered her baby in February 2007. Shortly thereafter, her parents began a fight that is reminiscent of the battle over Terri's life and death.

As in the Terri Schiavo case, physicians have been quick to label Lauren as having a persistent vegetative state -- something Terri's family called dehumanizing and medically inaccurate as patients have recovered from it.

Edith Towers, Lauren's mother, wants to remove her feeding tube and starve and dehydrate her to death in the same manner that Michael Schiavo subjected Terri.

Towers claims Lauren would never have wanted to live as a permanently disabled person, but Lauren, as with Terri, did not have a living will or other advance directive spelling out her treatment wishes. She claims Lauren told her during Terri's battle that she would not want to live like her.

On the other side is Randy Richardson, Lauren's father is fighting to save her life and wants to be appointed as her guardian to ensure she receives appropriate medical care and treatment.

"She's committed no crime and doesn't deserve to have this death imposed on her," Richardson told the News Journal newspaper on Wednesday. "We just want to give her a chance."

Lauren no longer uses a ventilator or other breathing apparatus and is not on artificial life support -- something Randy contends is showing progress.

Towers is winning the legal battle in court as she was awarded guardianship of Lauren, but Randy Richardson has filed an appeal.

The News Journal indicates Delaware Court of Chancery Master Sam Glasscock III has put any action taking Lauren's life on hold while the court reviews the guardianship ruling -- a process that could take as much as three months to complete.

Regardless of the decision, an appeal to the Delaware Supreme Court is expected.

Randy Richardson also has other concerns about his daughter and says that Towers, his ex-wife, has not allowed Lauren's baby to see her.

Richardson and the Delaware Pro-Life Coalition released a video on Wednesday that shows Lauren at a nursing home reacting to family members and a dog.

The pro-life group also organized a prayer vigil near the Arbors Rehab Center in New Castle.

As I inferred just upthread, the elites have granted us with all magnanimity, three possibilities in November, the Marx brothers, Groucho, Harpie, and Karl. The challenge is to guess which one is the farthest left, who would bring down our Republic the quickest. Our choice is limited to that if the elites have their way.

Wagglebee started a thread on the topic and it is, uhhhh, stirring up some emotions.

To all of you FRiberals out there, and that means all of you Rooty Rooters and Romneyites, it's your fault that the GOP is almost for certain stuck with McCain as the nominee. Now, I don't mean those of you who voted for Romney on Super Tuesday in an effort to split the vote, but the rest of you are culpable.

Conservative FReepers have spent the past year listening to the likes of you tell us that conservatives have "had their foot on the neck" of the GOP for too long. We were told that all that mattered was someone who was strong on terror. We were told that we needed someone with strong name recognition. We were told that generally the GOP decides whose "turn it is" and then nominates that person. We were told that we needed someone who can get independent votes. We were told that ANY Republican would nominate strict constructionists to the Federal bench. We were told that winning was all that mattered............

Message to the FRiberal RINOs: McCain is YOUR Fault!

This SUNDAY is Lisa MacPherson’s birthday had she not died suspiciously of dehydration at the Scientology Hotel in downtown Clearwater. There is a group called “anonymous” who is holding worldwide demonstrations against the sci’s on Lisa’s birthday.

A McCain-Crist ticket would be much worse than death by chocolate. What do you get when you put a wild old man with a suntanned empty suit?

I copied the gist of the website for Lauren, latest as of today. Omitted some images and graphics so it would load faster. Thanks, Les, for all you do...

.........................

Lauren Marie Richardson is a twenty-three year old woman who suffered an anoxic brain injury after an accident on August 28, 2006.

Lauren's life is endangered by a recent court decision made by Master Sam Glasscock III, by which her feeding tube will be removed.  As a disabled citizen, she is defenseless against the court-approved, imposed act of dehydration and starvation intended to cause her death.

Lauren gave birth to a baby girl during this ordeal, and has not been allowed to see her child.  This little baby girl needs a chance to know her mother.  We appeal to each person with compassion and love to understand why we wish to bring Lauren home and care for her.

Lauren's situation is greater than you can imagine.  Her story should be told, and we pray that it has a happy ending.
Lauren is....
....Responsive
....She is NOT brain dead
- she is disabled
....Some doctors say that with therapy
she may soon eat on her own.

A glimpse from Mrs. Grundy in the Andalusia Star, a tiny excerpt to be sure...

The Portly One heard later that death threats and ugly, verbal protests had been received by the Chautauqua's officials prior to Rove's arrival. Threats had also been received because of another speaker, Bobby Schindler, brother to Terri Schiavo, the disabled woman who was allowed to die, with court approval, of starvation and dehydration. (The reader is advised to note that the way younger adults treat older adults in our churches is a whiff of the growing acceptance of euthanasia, a natural result of the acceptance of abortion of innocent babies.)

Overheard, out and about, Mrs. Grundy sees all, tells all

Washington Post Factos in their .com post show a no Wynn scenario for anyone with the audacity to side with those hoping to save Terri's life. How dare he!!!

Mr. Wynn has long touted what he regards as a pragmatic ability to work across partisan lines. We're all for bipartisanship, but in Mr. Wynn's case, too often his stances have been unthinking and out of step with his district's interests. His vote to scrap the estate tax suggested he was indifferent to his own middle-class constituents. By flip-flopping on fuel-efficiency standards and opposing campaign finance reforms, he showed his contempt for clean air and clean government. And he seems scarcely aware of the import of his votes to permit federal courts to intervene in the Terri Schiavo case and to support a constitutional amendment banning flag-burning: granting federal courts a license to meddle in private affairs and cramping free speech............

I can understand the concern about these antics, but why, just why do we never refer to Daniel Pearl's right-to-die in the similarly compassionate care of Khalid Shaikh Mohammed ?

It's a good thing Chicago's two sports radio stations, WMVP and WSCR, are bottom feeders in the quarterly ratings. Otherwise, the perception might be that their hosts define the city. And heaven help us if we were personified by a collection of crude, disgusting cavemen who spew anti-Semitism, conduct ``hug a Black'' missions, make fun of people on life support, refer to a female TV executive as ``a bitch'' and react to Bill Wirtz's passing by asking which local figures should die next.

~Snip~

Another problem is allowing sports hosts with low IQs to pontificate about social issues. For years, WSCR's Mike North has embarrassed his hometown by forcing his views on race, religion and current events when, in truth, he's just a goof who was pulled out of a hot-dog stand 15 years ago. North has a hard enough time putting together a sports argument, much less breaking down Hillary vs. Obama. But there he was, mimicking and mocking brain-damaged Terri Schiavo during her right-to-die drama. Sorry, but why is a sports host telling me about Terri Schiavo? And wouldn't I want to scream if I heard him ridiculing her, wondering how he might feel if she was one of his family members?................

Dare I say it again? Perhaps the care given by Khalid Sheikh Mohammed to Daniel Pearl was more like physician assisted suicide. At least that is how the ACLU (Awful Communist Leftie Unuchs) see it...

As Executive Director of the Florida affiliate of the American Civil Liberties Union, Simon has overall responsibility for the ACLU's legal, public education, legislative lobbying, and membership and fund-raising programs. During Simon's tenure with the ACLU, the organization has been involved in cases and controversies dealing with school vouchers, charter schools, religious practices in the public schools, abortion rights, physician-assisted suicide (Schiavo), voting rights, and numerous controversies involving freedom of speech.................

A sign of the Times in a thread by wagglebee...

LOS ANGELES, February 8, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - An article published today in the LA Times gives new details about five abortion mills in southern California, owned by Bertha Bugarin, that were raided last summer by a special unit of the Los Angeles Police Department, the Health Authority Law Enforcement Task Force (HALT).

At the time of the raids Bertha Bugarin and her sister were arrested and then released on bail. They have now been charged with practicing medicine without a license on five patients in February and March 2007. The LAPD charges Bertha Bugarin "with five felony counts of practicing medicine without certification and two misdemeanor counts of dispensing medication without a license," while Raquel "is charged in the same complaint with five felony counts of aiding or abetting the practice of medicine without certification.".........

“..Some doctors say that with therapy

It just keeps getting worse. They don’t even want to give disabled people a CHANCE any more, even the young. Imagine what they do with the elderly when they have the chance.

Lauren is such a beautiful young woman.

I pray each day for and end to abortion, euthanasia, forced “euthanasia,” etc..

More prayers for Lauren.

I smell death attorneys from Florida all over Delaware egging mom on. Maybe mom gets money from Social Security to care for the child if Lauren dies. You know some folks, even moms will sell out even for just a little cash.

If mom believes the child is a REPLICA of Lauren so that Lauren CAN BE KILLED, that's one twisted mother.

Subject: My call to Delaware Gov Minner on behalf of Lauren Richardson

The woman fielding calls said the Governor has no plans
to get involved in a matter before the courts.

I said as the Executive Branch leader she has a responsibility
to protect innocent life.

She kept saying she couldn't because it is a judicial matter.

I pointed out that she has the power to pardon criminals
so she should pardon an innocent woman who has
someone trying to starve her with spurious motives.

I asked if she'd please make note of the calls about this
grievous situation.

She said she'd make note of my call (implying I'm the only
one who has called.)

I said we'd be happy to generate more.

BTW, the first person to answer the phone seemed
sympathetic and very happy to pass my call along.

Leslie

Calls on Lauren's behalf can be made to Delaware
Governor Ruth Ann Minner at:

Wilmington Office: 302- 577-3210
Dover Office: 302-744-4101

Lauren's family has the info up on their web site www.Lifeforlauren.org
about Ambien.  We should all be praying that they will somehow be able to
try this therapy which has been successful with other locked in people.

Hale and farewell...

Poor lefties on Puffington Host think they have out-voted God again and declared God a loser. I conclude this because they suppose they have completely vanquished His people.

Now they smell victory as they see us stuck with a choice amongst their beloved three Marx brothers, Groucho, Harpie, and Karl as the only possible winners quashing their hated and our loved America. And they gloat and prance like only foolish lefties can do. I can only envision this guy Hale drooling or foaming slightly at the mouth as his fingers trembled with joy over the keyboard.

..............................

You guys controlled the While House and Congress for 6 years. The country saw what you want to accomplish and are experiencing the impact of your policies. And guess what? THEY THINK CONSERVATIVE GOVERNMENT STINKS.

~Snip~

Terry Schiavo: This was by far the clearest indication of what the religious right will do if they attain power. And it isn't pretty. Let's tackle this by showing how clearly this situation violated literally every core Republican belief.

"Republicans believe in state's rights." This situation was litigated for years at the state level, in an area of law that traditionally has happened at the state level. The religious right didn't like the result, so they made it a federal issue.

"Republicans believe in individual rights." Schiavo's husband demonstrated in court that his wife wanted to die should her then current situation happen to her. That was her individual choice. A judge agreed. The religious right decided that just wasn't good enough....................

Dr. West of the Heritage Foundation examines in detail what passes for thinking behind the left.

Thread by wagglebee.

"An age of science is necessarily an age of materialism," wrote Hugh Elliot early in the last century. "Ours is a scientific age, and it may be said with truth that we are all materialists now."[1]

One does not have to look far to discover the continued accuracy of Elliot's assessment. Scientific materialism--the claim that everything in the universe can be fully explained by science as the products of unintelligent matter and energy--has become the operating assumption for much of American politics and culture. We are repeatedly told today that our behaviors, our emotions, even our moral and religious longings are reducible to some combination of physical processes interacting with our environment..................
