Lauren Richardson Becomes Next Terri Schiavo as Parents Debate Euthanasia (Delaware)
LifeNews ^ | 2/1/2008 | Steven Ertelt

Posted on 02/01/2008 2:51:57 PM PST by Pyro7480

A Delaware woman has become the next Terri Schiavo as her parents engage in a massive legal and philosophical debate about whether to subject her to euthanasia. Richardson is a 23-year-old woman who overdosed on heroin in August 2006 while she was three months pregnant with a baby girl.

Doctors kept Lauren on life support until she delivered her baby in February 2007. Shortly thereafter, her parents began a fight that is reminiscent of the battle over Terri's life and death.

As in the Terri Schiavo case, physicians have been quick to label Lauren as having a persistent vegetative state -- something Terri's family called dehumanizing and medically inaccurate as patients have recovered from it.

Edith Towers, Lauren's mother, wants to remove her feeding tube and starve and dehydrate her to death in the same manner that Michael Schiavo subjected Terri.

Towers claims Lauren would never have wanted to live as a permanently disabled person, but Lauren, as with Terri, did not have a living will or other advance directive spelling out her treatment wishes. She claims Lauren told her during Terri's battle that she would not want to live like her.

On the other side is Randy Richardson, Lauren's father is fighting to save her life and wants to be appointed as her guardian to ensure she receives appropriate medical care and treatment.

"She's committed no crime and doesn't deserve to have this death imposed on her," Richardson told the News Journal newspaper on Wednesday. "We just want to give her a chance."

Lauren no longer uses a ventilator or other breathing apparatus and is not on artificial life support -- something Randy contends is showing progress.

Towers is winning the legal battle in court as she was awarded guardianship of Lauren, but Randy Richardson has filed an appeal.

The News Journal indicates Delaware Court of Chancery Master Sam Glasscock III has put any action taking Lauren's life on hold while the court reviews the guardianship ruling -- a process that could take as much as three months to complete.

Regardless of the decision, an appeal to the Delaware Supreme Court is expected.

Randy Richardson also has other concerns about his daughter and says that Towers, his ex-wife, has not allowed Lauren's baby to see her.

Richardson and the Delaware Pro-Life Coalition released a video on Wednesday that shows Lauren at a nursing home reacting to family members and a dog.

The pro-life group also organized a prayer vigil near the Arbors Rehab Center in New Castle.

Where are our freepers near Delaware? If the temps warm up, it’s time for some sign demonstrations at the Governor’s Mansion, at the Capital, etc. We need a map of that part of the country here like we did re: Terri. This is a Call to Action. Les maybe find out from JR or an admin mod where we can put a Call to Action for Lauren and people can post what they did for Lauren in response to the Call to Action. It needs to be a separate thread imo.

Who gave judges the power to kill innocent people? Maybe THE LAW in Delaware needs to be challenged by somebody. Guess the Delaware judge took J. GREER'S CORRESPONDENCE COURSE "How to Kill an Innocent Woman" or just fleece her (ala Hulk Hogan's wife is getting fleeced imo by Greer).

The powerful republicans behind J. Greer are not doing well with the potus nominating process. It's about time the powerful potentates experienced failure as they have ruined countless lives "for the party".

Lauren wears a cross. She'd never want to be tortured to death. The other team of cultist/experts pushing for this barbaric act does not wear crosses. They are probably drawing pentagrams in the dirt and bribing judges, medical staff and maybe even mom. If a death lawyer tells mom this is bigger than Lauren, mom will be their puppet and mom will be too oppressed to change her mind. Pray for mom and for dad but most of all, for Lauren.

Making the photo this size makes a nice COPY/DOWNLOAD that can be enlarged at a copy store and stuck on a sign.

I can't think of a slogan but it should have the Governor of Delaware's phone number and email on it. AND, A MAIN NUMBER FOR THE LEGISLATURE in Delaware on it.

Promise not to laugh, I am really sure it would hurt her feelings because she is really serious about it...

After all it is through the myopic field glasses of a liberal and that is how she sees the world.

The scandals mounted, and even with our weak and biased media, we recognized a pattern of corruption. I've culled lists, and my own journals, and came up with over 7 pages of disasters & scandals. I tried to edit is as much as possible.

Here's a partial list of what's caused the fatigue that helps Obama:

secret energy plans, failure to recognize and address global warming, Terry Schiavo, trying to roadblock the 9/11 commission and then failing to implement the recommendations, false, cherry picked intelligence, Cheney's Preventive war doctrine (requires no eminent threat, and has always been considered a war crime), state of the union lies, bloated deficits, greed, tax cuts for the wealthy, illegal surveillance (SWIFT), war mongering, war profiteering (Civilian Contractors), loss of civil rights (Patriot Act), acceptance of torture (Military Commissions Act), black prisons and renditions, Abu Ghraib, Guantanamo, false military reporting (Pat Tillman, Jessica Lynch, et al), lack of diplomatic relations or attempts at diplomatic solutions - ANYWHERE.; and the distasteful, long tortured reign of the rubber stamping GOP congress.

~Snip~

As long as a Democrat wins in November, we have nothing to fear. We just need to put the emotion aside and accept whoever the nominee is, and then all come together to win.

Bush fatigue propels Obama and memories of RFK

Again, promise not to laugh. This lady is an intellectual of the left and is writing this book review in a highly acclaimed site, meant as "A sinister cabal of Superior Writers." So please overlook her mistakes in writing and logic.

Linker has a unique perspective as the former editor of First Things, the journal of the theocons. He believes that Americans should be scared enough by this small conservative movement to keep an eye and a check on how far religion is allowed to go in consulting with federal government.

The argument is compelling. We are dealing with an administration that brought in faith based initiatives, faith based counseling, and that involved itself in the Terry Schiavo rigt-to-die case. It is also a proponent of "intelligent design", has passed (or attempted) pro-life legislation, is against gay marriage, and continues to fund and fight a moral global war against terror............

In the beginning...a thread posted by NYer. Thanks, narses, for the ping.

How can something be both immense and minute at the same time, something upon which all of human history depends, yet fragile and almost non-existent to the eye? It is the union of an egg and sperm — an embryo. Such is God's way. He takes something smaller than a mustard seed and brings forth all of civilization. After creating everything in the universe single-handedly, He created us in his own image and bestowed upon us the power to become co-creators with Him. Working in union with us, when the sperm unites with the egg, not only has a new human life been set in motion, but so too has a spiritual life. God places an everlasting soul into the being of every son and daughter.

Most of us rarely think that deeply about it all. In our worldly way, we forget eternity and begin to affix costs — physical, emotional and monetary. The costs can seem exorbitant when we focus only through the eyes of the world. And looking through those same worldly eyes, the way to prevent the miracle we clearly do not recognize as such is so easy, inexpensive, and ironically, also so small — the birth control pill. But the pill does not just prevent the miracle, it also destroys it, a fact that is often surprising to committed pro-lifers. This fact is true for all contraception that works through manipulation of hormone levels........

Cutting through the fog of state sponsored killing, an Oregon case in the thread by wagglebee...

WASHINGTON, Feb. 7 /Christian Newswire/ -- The case of an Oregon man who allegedly shot his ALS-afflicted wife in the head at her request exposes major problems with the philosophy behind assisted suicide, said Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life.

"The so-called 'right' to end one's suffering by ending one's life is on a collision course with itself," Fr. Pavone said. "People will claim that restrictions or delays in exercising this 'right' only increase their suffering and therefore their right to end it."...........

A peek behind the curtain shows reveals even more barbarity in the industry of killing innocents. Thread from don-o. Thanks, wagglebee, for the ping.

...........“What’s going on in there to make these babies so stressed?” Anand wondered. Breaking with hospital practice, he wrangled permission to follow his patients into the O.R. “That’s when I discovered that the babies were not getting anesthesia,” he recalled recently. Infants undergoing major surgery were receiving only a paralytic to keep them still.

snip

And it matters, of course, for the practice of abortion. Over the past four years, anti-abortion groups have turned fetal pain into a new front in their battle to restrict or ban abortion. Anti-abortion politicians have drafted laws requiring doctors to tell patients seeking abortions that a fetus can feel pain and to offer the fetus anesthesia; such legislation has already passed in five states.............

They put a staffer named Blaine on the phone and we spoke for 12 minutes. He stated emphatically that the Gov will not step in in the Lauren Richardson case and that she has complete faith in the system. There is a separation of powers and it's in place for a reason. The decision rest in the hands of the court & the judge. blah, blah, blah... Then he stated that Gov Minner will follow the law. I asked him what about the law, Do Not Murder; he continued on the path that she, the Gov cannot step in. After telling him that she, being the Gov, of course can step in and I asked him if he would correct his statement to say that she WON'T step in.

That led us to his next point of where do you draw the line? If the Gov steps in in one case, where do you draw the line? How about drawing the line when it comes to murdering an innocent woman by starvation, I posed to him. Blaine continued to hold fast to his argument and after several more minutes, his closing statement was, "She'll do what's right in her eyes and for her constituents." I made sure that he understood that "right in her eyes" does not make it truly right and that there is a standard. And, long after this case has passed from the public eye, Gov Minner will have to relive it in her her mind's eye, and that she will stand before the only Judge that matters. I asked Blaine to please tell Gov Minner that if she does nothing, Lauren Richardson's blood will be on her hands.

Olympia...

"It's the water..."

............................................

Olympia, WA (LifeNews.com) -- A lawsuit euthanasia opponents have filed will prevent backers of a statewide initiative making the state the second to legalize assisted suicide from gathering signatures to put it on the November ballot. Opponents say the wording of the ballot proposal is misleading and doesn't give voters complete information.

Under the measure, Washington residents who have less than six months to live would be able to ask a doctor for a prescription for lethal drugs to kill themselves.

~Snip~

Ironically, just months ago Gardner underwent deep brain surgery for Parkinson's Disease, which could possibly be used to help incapacitated patients like Terri Schiavo.

Bioethics watchdog Wesley J. Smith says the former governor is ignoring the dangers and problems associated with allowing doctors to have a role in killing their patients.

"The potential for--and abuses that are actually happening--from legalized assisted suicide are well documented," Smith says.

"But advocates like Gardner willfully ignore that part of the story. Bluntly stated, they want what they want for themselves and don't care who gets hurt," he adds...........................

Good news!

Thread by wagglebee.

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- The nation’s largest abortion business has closed facilities in five states, including two locations in Illinois, one and Idaho and merging two in Kentucky. The abortion business claims the closures are the result of a lack of funding in the way of taxpayer dollars, even though the business maintains millions in the bank and makes money on an annual basis.

According to STOPP International, a watchdog group, Planned Parenthood closed an express clinic in Nampa, Idaho, an express clinic in Naperville, Illinois, and a non-express clinic in Lincoln, Illinois................

Susan should call Blaine back and tell him that Gov. Minner will end up like Jeb Bush, once beloved, now despised and a he's a guy on the sidelines because he didn't save Terri Schiavo. Jeb's known as a coward and a puppet of the republican machine. (and, the RNC's in trouble now - wonder why...)

Her political ambitions will be over as well as her good name if she puts her head in the sand.

Minner the beginner at this right to life issue will become Delaware's Wicked Witch of the East. We can photoshop her into a witch's costume in no time flat. Killing people is evil and if Minner wants to be Minner the death cultist, she's on her way.

She's not showing leadership either. She's risking being tied to the Bushes by ignoring Lauren. Minner-Bush. Bush-Minner. Disabled people and their advocates VOTE.
