Lauren Richardson Becomes Next Terri Schiavo as Parents Debate Euthanasia (Delaware)
LifeNews ^ | 2/1/2008 | Steven Ertelt

A Delaware woman has become the next Terri Schiavo as her parents engage in a massive legal and philosophical debate about whether to subject her to euthanasia. Richardson is a 23-year-old woman who overdosed on heroin in August 2006 while she was three months pregnant with a baby girl.

Doctors kept Lauren on life support until she delivered her baby in February 2007. Shortly thereafter, her parents began a fight that is reminiscent of the battle over Terri's life and death.

As in the Terri Schiavo case, physicians have been quick to label Lauren as having a persistent vegetative state -- something Terri's family called dehumanizing and medically inaccurate as patients have recovered from it.

Edith Towers, Lauren's mother, wants to remove her feeding tube and starve and dehydrate her to death in the same manner that Michael Schiavo subjected Terri.

Towers claims Lauren would never have wanted to live as a permanently disabled person, but Lauren, as with Terri, did not have a living will or other advance directive spelling out her treatment wishes. She claims Lauren told her during Terri's battle that she would not want to live like her.

On the other side is Randy Richardson, Lauren's father is fighting to save her life and wants to be appointed as her guardian to ensure she receives appropriate medical care and treatment.

"She's committed no crime and doesn't deserve to have this death imposed on her," Richardson told the News Journal newspaper on Wednesday. "We just want to give her a chance."

Lauren no longer uses a ventilator or other breathing apparatus and is not on artificial life support -- something Randy contends is showing progress.

Towers is winning the legal battle in court as she was awarded guardianship of Lauren, but Randy Richardson has filed an appeal.

The News Journal indicates Delaware Court of Chancery Master Sam Glasscock III has put any action taking Lauren's life on hold while the court reviews the guardianship ruling -- a process that could take as much as three months to complete.

Regardless of the decision, an appeal to the Delaware Supreme Court is expected.

Randy Richardson also has other concerns about his daughter and says that Towers, his ex-wife, has not allowed Lauren's baby to see her.

Richardson and the Delaware Pro-Life Coalition released a video on Wednesday that shows Lauren at a nursing home reacting to family members and a dog.

The pro-life group also organized a prayer vigil near the Arbors Rehab Center in New Castle.

Letter From Terri's Brother

Week of February 18, 2008

On Tuesday, February 5, 2008, my parents and I were honored to be in attendance with the Most Reverend Bishop Frank Dewane, Bishop of the Diocese of Venice, Florida, for the third annual dinner for the Terri Schindler Schiavo Scholarship of Ave Maria University located in Naples, Florida. This scholarship was established in July of 2005 and is the first of its kind in the United States to be named on behalf of my sister, Terri.

Mr. Joseph Grady, president of My Jesus Mercy Ministries and father of current Ave Maria University student Matthew Grady, initiated the idea of establishing the scholarship to help pre-theologate students finance their educations. They have organized the annual dinners to help raise funds and awareness for this scholarship.

Father Dennis Cooney, Pastor at St. Raphael Parish in Lehigh Acres, Florida, graciously hosted the event at his Parish for the third year.

Mr. Grady, who began the evening, explained the reason for the scholarship. He also spoke about his efforts to raise awareness in the hopes of one day having Terri beatified. Mr. Grady displayed a beautiful enlarged photo of Terri on her wedding day with a picture of our Lord, Jesus Christ, and eloquently shared why he believed that Terri will one day be canonized a Saint.

His Excellency, Bishop Dewane was then introduced to speak on the importance of the value and dignity of all life, the significance of the pre-theologate program and the need for more priests to fight the growing culture of death saturating our nation. Bishop Dewane also referenced Pope John Paul's 2004 allocution on life sustaining treatment, making it clear that starving and dehydrating to death persons in situations like Terri's can never be tolerated and is not an act of love or compassion.

Afterwards, my parents and I stayed and spoke with many of the people in attendance, listening to how my beautiful sister continues to touch so many people in such an extraordinary way. We have been so truly blessed by the friendship and support of those who continue to carry on her legacy.

On behalf of Terri and her Foundation, we thank you for your continued support.

God Bless,

Bobby Schindler and the Schindler Family

Life for Lauren

Lauren Marie Richardson is a twenty-three year old woman who suffered an anoxic brain injury after an accident on August 28, 2006.

Lauren's life is endangered by a recent court decision made by Master Sam Glasscock III, by which her feeding tube will be removed. As a disabled citizen, she is defenseless against the court-approved, imposed act of dehydration and starvation intended to cause her death.

But wait! There's more.

The article by Bobby is posted above in the Washington Times. Pyro7480 posted it at #266 upthread. Regrettably, we can't do more than excerpts, but it is worthwhile to follow Pyro's link.

Perhaps declared a martyr and possibly beatified but it takes much more to be cannonized.

So very true, but indeed little miracles appeared at the vigil site. Maybe someday, maybe not...

Myra Christopher, president and chief executive of the nonprofit, said that Colby’s work in the last two decades “has changed how we die in America.”

The guy is sure trying to change how we die, hopefully for him, sooner and by his control. Get out the Kevorkian tools 'cause here he comes.

Local lawyer Bill Colby, whose two books on right-to-die issues have earned him a national reputation, has joined the Center for Practical Bioethics.

As Senior Fellow–Law and Patient Rights, Colby will direct activities at the intersection of law, medicine and ethics, with special emphasis on patients’ rights and clinical practice, said Lorell LaBoube, the center’s director of communications..................

I can relate to this guy's perspective 'cause I was one of those critters, a govt. exec, not a lib, once upon a time. They just hope that pesky religion stuff could just go away. It interferes with their desire to run the govt. the way they think it should be run, hopefully in the hands of RINO's so it wouldn't be such hard work. Myopia is a job requirement.

In a funny way, I can identify with how Republicans are feeling and acting these days. I've been fighting a cold since before I boarded a plane for Des Moines to attend the Iowa caucuses, feeling lousy the whole time.

~Snip~

What is missing from the GOP debate right now is a clear idea about what it should look like two, three, four, or five years hence. The party may be turning in a slightly more secular direction, becoming a bit less focused on social and cultural issues, and softening the pervasive religious overtones of recent years. Those overtones helped to estrange the GOP from independents and moderates, particularly on such issues as stem-cell research and the Terri Schiavo case....

This just goes to show what an evil sham "bioethics" really is.

There is no "intersection of law, medicine and ethics" because "ethics" is a moral code and by definition murder is immoral. The lawyers can argue all they want that immorality is good, but that will never change the truth.

Thread on democrat lib perspectives and infanticide by 50mm. Thanks, narses, for the ping.

To vomit, or not to vomit: That is the question: Whether ‘tis nobler in the mind to dispose of one’s supper, or to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous equivocation, and take arms against a sea of fellows and colleagues, and by writing in opposition, reveal thoughts conceived in fraudulence.

Perhaps that sounds like so much gobbledygook to you, and no doubt, Shakespeare is flopping about in his coffin like a grounded catfish. Therefore, you may have some sense of my pent-up irritation, having endured as a witness to the systematic programming of my fellow citizens.

Conscientious, moral people have been played like a gypsy’s violin. You have been trained by repetitious exercise, like so many carpet-wetting puppies that now, without hesitation, spew the script that was written for you by power-lusting, left-wing democrats. I have watched this unfold from the beginning, unwilling to acknowledge a likelihood that these political whores could actually seduce the common-sense out of people I love and respect. ...............

Oboy, just oboy...

Thread by wagglebee on a fake Catholic...

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- The former director of a pro-abortion group that claims to be Catholic has endorsed Barack Obama as the most pro-abortion presidential candidate in the race. Frances Kissling, the former president of Catholics for a Free Choice, responded to a Huffington Post editorial by Ellie Smeal, Gloria Steinem and others endorsing Hillary Clinton.

Kissling admitted that there is little difference between the pro-abortion policies both Democratic candidates would advance as president, and the judges they would appoint to keep abortion legal another 35 years...........

Is there something we don't know about how this poor guy was standing, or was it as blatant as it looks? If so, Georgia has taken a dangerous step toward Hitler's NAZI goals.

ATLANTA, Feb. 18 /Christian Newswire/ -- As things begin to heat up in a busy legislative session in Georgia, and state lawmakers fight over their own special interests some of these political tensions have clearly lead to the arrest of one demonstrator this week. Robert Roethlisberger Jr., of Clarkston, Georgia, was arrested on February 15, 2008, while holding a sign promoting House Resolution 536 known as the "Human Life Amendment." It is an attempt to place on this year's election ballot an amendment to the state Constitution that would protect human life at every stage of development.

"Having been arrested for criminal trespass while standing on a street corner can only give you the idea that someone wants your message to disappear," said Roethlisberger. "A 'right to petition' are the last three words written in our first amendment to 'The Bill of Rights' but this right carries little meaning if you get arrested for expressing a need for change in government," says Roethlisberger about his most recent arrest..........

LAWYER WHO REPRESENTED MICHAEL SCHIAVO IN HIS
QUEST TO MURDER TERRI:

“Felos said he was pleased that this is apparently exactly what happened
with Lauren Richardson and her mother,” explaining that Lauren (HEARSAY)
told her mother she wouldn’t want to live that way (like Terri.)

We do need to derail this death culture.

How can death be preferable to life?

OBAMA'S VIEWS ON DEHYDRATION? Here he is slamming down a spring water.

I don't think I've ever heard him make any reference to disabled people... Why are they always forgotten? What about their liberty?

Whomever the guardian is of a child would get some benefits but it wouldn't be a large sum but it would be a continual basis. Whatever happened to the child's father? Did he give up his parental rights??? Maybe mom wants to keep the dad out of the picture for some reason or vice versa. I don't see this would be a million dollar baby unless outside groups are pressuring mom to end Lauren's life.

It's ridiculous that people can end lives based upon subjective reasoning. Whatever happened to right and wrong anyway?

Scientology’s biggest local critic in Clearwater committed suicide by running a hose from his car into his residence. An investigation has been called for but I’m not holding my breath on the Clearwater PD or SA Bernie McCabe. They wine and dine with the sci-fi’s. The guy did a documentary about the cult that played often on public access until that channel was axed this summer.

“live that way”. There’s a flip side: Who would want to die the way Terri died? Any volunteers? George Felos is pure evil. Guess he’s eager for another beautiful death for the new age calendar.

KHOW’s Peter Boyles show this am had a former Scientology
member from Ireland as a guest. I called and was on hold
ready to ask if he could envision the cult being involved
in Terri’s murder.

Sadly, the show ended before I got to ask.
