Talk Back to Berkeley: Sign the Petition(Michelle Malkin: Berkeley bans Marines)
michellemalkin.com ^ | February 1, 2008 | MICHELLE MALKIN

Posted on 02/02/2008 5:37:43 AM PST by kellynla

Move America Forward’s Melanie Morgan sends word of a new petition protesting Berkeley’s discrimination against the Marines. She tells me: “We will be delivering the petition in person to the City of Berkeley at the next regularly scheduled meeting. Thanks for helping to spread the story of the outrageous conduct and slander against our troops.” The petition is here. The text:

To: The City Council, Mayor and City Manager of Berkeley, California

We, the undersigned, do register our complete outrage with the City of Berkeley for the recent resolutions that criticized our Marines, as part of an effort to harass the Marine Recruiting Center and chase all vestiges of the United States military outside of the city of Berkeley, California.

We take particular umbrage with the instructions given to the City Manager of Berkeley to tell the United States Marines that they are, “uninvited and unwelcome intruders.”

It is shameful for you to attack our military men and women who nobly and bravely serve this nation to protect our security and defend our freedoms and liberties. Those liberties include the right to Freedom of Speech, which you seem to believe should not be afforded to the members of the United States Marine Corps and service personnel in other branches of the Armed Forces.

I call upon you to immediately revoke the resolutions passed that defamed and insulted our U.S. Marines and issue a public apology to this nation, and in particular, the honorable and heroic men and women of the United States military.

Frankly, in the America that used to be — let’s call it John Wayne’s America — some real men would just wade in there and beat the crap out of the girlyboys responsible for this. But, we’re too civilized now to protect even the most basic tenets of common decency.

Saw yesterday where one member of Congress is proposing to cut off all of the city’s federal funds. That’s the very way to handle it. In these days of massive federal deficits we should simply decline to fund things were the US government is not welcome. No more of taking the funds but refusing everything else. The days of the Federal Funds Buffet should be over.

I can certainly defend the right of any citizen or jurisdiction to run their lives or government in the way the choose. But we sure don’t have to fund them.

Sen. Jim DeMint, R-South Carolina, has threatened to introduce legislation to strip the city of federal funds as a result of the City Council’s vote.

“This is a slap in the face to all brave service men and women and their families,” DeMint wrote on his Web site. “The First Amendment gives the city of Berkeley the right to be idiotic, but from now on they should do it with their own money. If the city can’t show respect for the Marines that have fought, bled and died for their freedom, Berkeley should not be receiving special taxpayer funded handouts.

“I am currently drafting legislation to ensure that American taxpayers aren’t forced to pay for this insult by rescinding all of the earmarks for Berkeley in the Omnibus Appropriations bill, and to transfer the funds to the Marine Corps.”

Among the funding DeMint seeks to remove is $87,000 for the Berkeley Unified School District’s nutrition education program.

“If there’s a senator from South Carolina that wants to take healthy food away from the children of Berkeley because the City Council has an issue with the military recruiting downtown, I just think that’s absurd,” said Ann Cooper, director of nutrition services for the district. “We’re in the throes of a health crisis (because of childhood obesity), and Berkeley is one of the very few cities in America that’s actually really working on children’s health through school food. Why anyone would want to take away healthy food away from children is just beyond me.”

Write your elected representatives and ask that all federal money be revoked from these anti-American Nazi scum in Berkeley California.

I have written mine and also asked that the anti-American Nazi organization Code Pink be asked where is their tax payments since they are a political organization and support the terrorist and not the United States.

Petition signed....Downtown Association emailed and we went even further. We notified their hospital (Alta Bates Medical Center) we would not be extending any staffing contracts for registered nurses because of the city governments stand on military recruiters and the negative attitude of the military in general. (may not sound like much but that’s $12K NET monthly we’ll have to generate elsewhere.)
