When speaking to black audiences, Hussein Obama has lamented the disproportionate incarceration rates of African Americans. He promises these audiences that he will work to remedy this “injustice.”
Obama’s unstated premise is that all ethnic groups commit crime at the same rates but that African Americans are captured and punished disproportionately. Anyone alive and paying attention in contemporary America knows that this premise is false. The black audiences to whom Obama trumpets this demagoguery know it better than anyone else. After all, many residents in urban African American neighborhoods are virtually prisoners in their own homes after dark. Yet they cheer him. The irrationality of racial politics.
Obama doesn’t repeat this nonsense before white or mixed audiences. And so the harbinger of a New Politics turns out to be just another cynical race hustler.
