montag813 you wrote in 2008 a reminder for all:

During the SOTU speech, my wife and I looked at each other in stunned silence as Bush proposed “investing” billions of dollars in a “Competitiveness” effort, by which the government would make grants for industries to “increase our competitiveness”.

Is capitalism dead in the GOP? We are to seize taxpayer dollars out of the economy, trust lifetime government bureaucrats who never ran a successful business in the real world to then dole them out to whomever they in their infinite ignorance think are worthy of “investment” for the future economy?

Why not just cut taxes to all businesses and let the “competitiveness” operate as it always has?

What is wrong with Bush?

Indeed. Obama earned some of the criticism, but he can claim to merely be implementing The Bush and Republican Plan for Centralized Planning of Competition.

Wall Street certainly acts like it expects The Bush and Republican Plan for Centralized Planning of Competition ... adopted by Obama ... to continue.

The GOPe have stopped opposing, and Wall Street chooses to not oppose, the central planners' barriers to free enterprise.

Wall Street, with well-entrenched connections in the central government, expects a lot of political capital that tilts commerce and trade in favor of the winners of Wall Street Survivor (that is a daily financial media show).

Simple; you wrote:

Yes.

And, try to point that out to the members of this forum as a warning about the GOPe of Bush prior to 2000?

The Bush-bots would not stand for it --- took them years to realize, what you wrote.

Rush Limbaugh saw it coming, when Bush representatives flew to Washington, to see Trent Lott and Orin Hatch, about negotiating a deal to release William Clinton from being cashiered from office.

What you wrote, was the biggest reason for the large outlays of cash spent for the Bush campaign. The system for repeating that method of campaigning, continued for Bush 2004, for McCain 2008, for Romney 2012, and Rove is pushing it ... again.

The GOPe method of "campaigning" is negotiating lucrative deals; they think that they are making progress, because they hold endless negotiation meetings/sessions.

The pressing problem, that the foundations of liberty are ignored by the GOP, remains, ignored.

The GOPe remains fearful of being accused of being "MEANSPIRITED" by defending freedom. As it was, when Bush accused Americans of being "vigilantes" for defending our laws. The "vigilantes" including parents of our kids in uniform, which parents own land along the borders of the U.S.A.

The same GOPe that now would rather kick a member of the Tea Party to the curb, than refuse a lucrative deal bone tossed from the fine dining table at Chez Big Government.
