Good point — and the two worst almost-Presidents, Albore Jr. and Jon Cary, also served. Military service must be greatly respected in its own terms, but when someone chooses to enter the political arena then their ideas, proposals, policies, and character are on the line.

This is typical of many "day-one" conservatives. They b!tch and moan about those who disagree with them and then b!tch and moan when some of those who did disagree with them change their minds.
My hero, Ronald Reagan, was not only a Democrat, he was the the president of the Screen Actors Guild--a labor union. Although Reagan did say his party left him it's doubtful that the Democratic Party was even remotely as conservative as the base of the GOP is today. Therefore it is safe to assume that Reagan had some heavy duty position-altering take place in his life.
"Day-One" conservatives tend to forget this because apparently no one is as "right" as they are--or ever were--and no one is allowed to get "right" either. Personally, I believe the whole point of debate is convert those that disagree with you. Yet, to day-one conservatives, if you're successful, the only thing you've accomplished is the creation of "flip-floppers".
A silly notion, I think.
I wish there were some way for "day-one" conservatives to understand Liberal Mind Fog. Not because the principles embodies therein have any merit, but rather because I don't think liberalism can be fought without understanding its true nature.
It's hard to fully describe LMF, but I think at the heart of it is a believe that reality can be molded as easily as imagination. If architect #1 submits a rather plain design for a building and architect #2 submits a design that would require materials far beyond anything in existence, the second architect should be praised for having 'vision' and for not being confined to the old-fashioned principles of engineering.
Liberal Mind Fog has some very tough defense mechanisms. Unfortunately, I've not really figured out how to get past them in the general case. I would suggest, though, that understanding the enemy will be essential to defeating it.
