WASHINGTON - The political redemption of John McCain began half a year ago, half a world away at a place called, fittingly enough, Camp Victory.
As his presidential campaign unraveled back home, McCain spent Independence Day 2007 at the sprawling American headquarters on the edge of Baghdad and watched in the heat as 588 U.S. troops re-enlisted. Afterward, the soldiers swarmed McCain and Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., to thank them for their support.
Depressed, doubtful his campaign could prevail, McCain turned to Graham on the flight home and said, "We can't give up on those kids. ... We have to keep this campaign up."
McCain remembers the moment now as a turning point in his incredible rise-and-fall-and-rise-again quest for the White House.
Before long, he was traveling Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina on his "No Surrender" bus tour, an exhortation not only for the U.S. course in Iraq but also for himself.
"I was experienced enough to know that our campaign was in trouble," McCain recalled last week in an AP interview. "But I was determined to struggle on."
McCain, an ex-Navy pilot who spent five and a half years as a Vietnam prisoner of war, once said he's had "a pretty eventful life."

I just want to know where McCain is getting his money. Once we know where the money is coming from, we will know everything.
Mr "Father of the Baker Comission" McCain had NOTHING to do with the Surge. His plan was to cut a political deal with Iran and Syria so we could quitely slink away from Iraq with our tail between our legs. Only after the Surge started producing results did McCain operatives try to claim credit for producing The Surge strategy.
Curious how we get all this media propaganda about "Because McCain serving in the military 40 years ago he would be a good CIC" yet no one remembers two of the worst President in US History, Jimmy Carter and LBJ both served in the military too.

IMMIGRATION

In a November 2005 interview with the Boston Globe, Romney described immigration proposals by McCain and others as “quite different” from amnesty, because they required illegal immigrants to register with the government, work for years, pay taxes, not take public benefits, and pay a fine before applying for citizenship.
“That’s very different than amnesty, where you literally say, ‘OK, everybody here gets to stay,’ “ Romney said in the interview. “It’s saying you could work your way into becoming a legal resident of the country by working here without taking benefits and then applying and then paying a fine.”
Romney did not specifically endorse McCain’s bill, saying he had not yet formulated a full position on immigration. But he did speak approvingly of efforts by McCain and Bush to solve the nation’s immigration crisis, calling them “reasonable proposals.”
Romney also said in the interview that it was not “practical or economic for the country” to deport the estimated 12 million immigrants living in the US illegally. “These people contribute in many cases to our economy and to our society,” he said. “In some cases, they do not. But that’s a whole group we’re going to have to determine how to deal with.”

Make no mistake, if Hilde or Huessein are elected, we will be leaving Iraq post haste.

When your guy does it you claim he is “Moderating his Conservativism”. Then you turn around and accuse his FOES of flip flopping?
Romney’s record is just as bad. Huckster’s is pretty bad too.
Not even a good attempt. McCain is a fraud. You spend 10-minutes looking at his record, and it’s completely evident. But what’s even more telling is when you listen to him now. He makes no apologies for his views in the past. He sticks by his amnesty bill—at least in Florida, though he decided to switch gears and reverse it 3 days later campaigning in California. And what’s most telling is his gross incompetence on economic matters.
Meanwhile, you listen to Romney, and you hear the voice of the conservative movement. He ain’t perfect; far from it. But his heart is in the right place. You can’t say the same thing about McCain.
Name 5 great moderates in history. As Rush says there are not any at all.

Actually he was still serving 27 years ago.
The reason McCain is ahead is that the Dems are imploding. Large numbers of them are abandoning the Dem Party because they can’t support Hillary or Obama, and they are coming over to the GOP to vote for McCain, who is the most liberal of the GOP field.
