Barack + GOP = ‘Obamacans’ (Some prominent Republicans have caught Obama fever.)
World Net Daily ^ | Feb 1, 2008 | By Richard Wolffe, Newsweek

Susan Eisenhower is more than just another disappointed Republican. She is also Ike's granddaughter and a dedicated member of the party who has urged her fellow Republicans in the past to stick with the GOP. But now Eisenhower, who runs an international consulting firm, is endorsing Barack Obama. She has no plans to officially leave the Republican Party. But in Eisenhower's view, Obama is the only candidate who can build a national consensus on the issues most important to her—energy, global warming, an aging population and America's standing in the world.

"Barack Obama will really be in a singular position to attract moderate Republicans," she told NEWSWEEK. "I wanted to do what many people did for my grandfather in 1952. He was hugely aided in his quest for the presidency by Democrats for Eisenhower. There's a long and fine tradition of crossover voters."

Eisenhower is one of a small but symbolically powerful group of what Obama recently called "Obamacans"—disaffected Republicans who have drifted away from their party just as Eisenhower Democrats did and, more recently, Reagan Democrats in the 1980s. They include lifelong Republican Tricia Moseley, a former staffer for the late Sen. Strom Thurmond, the one-time segregationist from South Carolina. Now a high-school teacher, Moseley says she was attracted to Obama's positions on education and the economy.

Wow. That apple certainly fell far from the tree.

Not really. Ike was a member of the eastern liberal wing of the party. He could easily have run as a Democrat without raising eyebrows.

How ironic:

I know a number of self-proclaimed Dems who detest Obama due to his (obvious) lack of experience. Apparently, they are not buying what he is selling.

1) Why are not any Democrats identified as "one time segregationists"

2) Sen. Thurmond probably had 10,000 staffers over his career, not surprising one would be an Obamamaniac.

Maybe Ike’s staff did his staff work while he was playing golf.

These are the “repukes” you read about. I might like to have a beer with Obama, but to vote for him? I think not. He intends to undo everything conservative.

Research? Hell, these twits have Gorbasims about “global warming” ... that speaks volumes of their intellectual capacity for reasoned thought. If the global warming crusade has contributed any positive benefit, it must be to expose all the RINO infiltrators. Damn fools have no soul and no sense.

Ike would not recognize, nor side with today’s Democrat Party... it would repulse him. Ike was a man of honor and principle... two qualities alien to modern Democrats.

“...He intends to undo everything conservative.”

I would phrase that differently: He intends to undo everything American.

In other words, being honest, she's a greedy old fool.

Loral? The company that provided missile staging and guidance technology to the Chinese in exchange for funding Bill Clinton’s presidential campaign?

“There’s a long and fine tradition of crossover voters.”

Crossover voters are people who realize they should have switched parties a while ago. It’s fine to move from one party to the other...ONCE. Reagan and Churchill switched, and I think no one doubts their ideological credentials. But people who switch back and forth are p-——s who want just to be able to say they voted for whoever was the more popular candidate at the time. These folks can go scratch.
