A suggestion for Super Tuesday (Vanity)
My Own Fertile Mind... | 02/04/08 | Brewingfrog

Posted on 02/04/2008 12:24:36 PM PST by BrewingFrog

Tomorrow, Super Tuesday, there will be a number of you voting in your primaries/caucuses. Hopefully, some of you will attend your Republican precinct meetings following the voting. If you have never done this, start. The Republican Party is, as many have noticed, wavering in its mission and direction. The only way to change it is from within, and that starts with you.

One thing I would suggest to help stave off a repeat of this election cycle, what with every conservative candidate run off early, is to stop allowing crossover or unregistered voters from voting in the Republican Primaries. This can be changed literally from the grassroots, starting at your local precinct meetings. Simply draw up a resolution stating that, "We the Republican Party of (insert State here), believe that to select the best possible candidates for the Republican slate, only registered or confirmed Republicans should vote in Republican Primaries. Any State Republican Party apparatus that declines to adhere to this principle shall not have its delegates seated and their votes will not count."

With this resolution in place, crossover rats and "independent" voters would not control the eventual Republican candidates. The MSM would also be taken out of the equation.

Even if you don't like this suggestion, attend your precinct meetings! Get involved! Let your voice be heard!

Excuse the vanity. I mostly lurk, but sometimes ya gotta speak out!

excellent post, but carry it a bit further. Begin participating in politics at a local level. Become known as one who cares not just for the party but for the well being of the community and state and nation. But start local.

I tell all Republicans the same thing: get up off your butt, stop complaining, and get involved in your party’s local central committee. If you don’t you’re just blowing smoke.

I’m not aware of any Republican precinct meetings in CA. However I applaud your suggestion.

In the south, including TN, sometimes the Republicans don’t put up a candidate in every race at the local level. I’ve crossed over before to vote in the local races, because there was no republican candidate in the races I cared about.

If it could be done, you’re idea might still be good. Maybe we could modify it, presuming it could be administered, that cross overs are prohibited unless republicans didn’t field a full slate in the last local election.

State parties that allow independents to participate like NH, do so to increase the likelihood that those same independents will support that Republican in the general election (which is what they care about— winning general elections). You’ll need to convince those people that your way is more beneficial. I don’t think it will be easy.

Likely it would not be easy. The State people are getting their Big Moment when the MSM Freak Show comes to town and I imagine that some folks lose sight of the bigger picture. Rat voters are not going to vote Republican, unless they are breaking out the ski gear in H@ll...

Good suggestion!

One reason I posted as I did was to get some good minds to working on this. It’s hard to find a better group of thinkers than what you have here at FR. The more of us that are involved, the better!

Bush got 11% of the Democrat vote in the 2004 general election.

I’ll spring for the hot buttered rum.

Out of curiosity, what percentage of Rep votes did Kerry get?

Even if a small number of rats voted for the Rep candidate, did allowing them to vote in the primary somehow make them more likely to do so in the general? I tend to think that they were likely as disgusted by Kerry as we were...

Only 6%. And independents split 49-48 in Kerry's favor.

Even if a small number of rats voted for the Rep candidate, did allowing them to vote in the primary somehow make them more likely to do so in the general?

The idea is that they would be more likely to support Bush in November if they did so in February, and those are the sort of Dems that would have been in that 11%.
