"This is the 'take your gun to church' bill," said state Rep. Doug McKillip (D-Athens), who voted against the legislation.

That's the point, you dolt!

Two words for you, Doug ol' buddy ol' pal:

Matthew Murray.

That was the New Life Church shooter. Stopped by a civilian with a carry permit.

He killed two girls and wounded their daddy in the parking lot.

Great, now an open carry right would be nice as well.

Sad day in America when Churches become targets for the deranged, but it is what is, a fallen world eh?

It appears, that the former democrat scumbags, who changed their stripes to become instant "republicans" a while back, are up to their silly-ass political games again - and all at the expense of the law-abiding citizens of Georgia.

I'm sure much of this is at the bequest of our POS "republican" governor (another democrat turd who flipped when it was politically expedient), who seems to be more interested in placating wealthy businessmen, than protecting and expanding the limits of freedom and Constitutional rights of Georgia citizens.

See this article (sorry, don't know how to make it an active link):

I fail to understand the point of the law or the article.

The right of self-defense is inherent.

On the frontier of the late 1700s, it was common to take your “gun” to church, “...with each man setting them in a corner till after meeting.”

A bad guy is going to take his gun to church or a restaurant anyway. What the heck is wrong with a law abiding citizen bringing a gun to same?

Used to not be an option - it was a requirement!
COLONIAL RECORDS OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA, PART 1, 138 (1911) (churchgoer “shall carry with him a gun, or a pair of pistols, in good order and fit for service, with at least six charges of gun-powder and ball, and shall take the said gun or pistols with him to the pew or seat”).

Despite our 2nd A. protections, the Swiss have made fools out of the USA, in my opinion, by successfully integrating firearms management into their culture, effectively reducing crime.
http://www.stephenhalbrook.com/articles/guns-crime-swiss.html
Also, in addition to the limited carnage at the New Life Church thanks to a responsible, gun-carrying citizen, consider the following. An incident comparable to last year's VT tragedy had taken place on another Virginia campus a few years earlier. Sadly, reports about the previous incident had failed to note that the renegade student was stopped by other students who had locked guns in their vehicles. In fact, the other students had stopped the gun-shooting student before the cops arrived at the crime scene.

Note that it has been observed that, just as with the older Virginia shooting incident, the gun-elimination media is arguably trying to rewrite history concerning the New Life Church incident.
