If McCain wins, given his age he could die in office.

I don't want to vote for a guy that I'm going to spend the next four years hoping for him to die - I think that's beyond "near occasion of sin."

As a Fredhead taking this all in, popcorn in hand, I have to say I despise McCain, I will not be voting for him in the Caucus or in the Primary, but if he is the last man standing in November, I will vote for him. It all comes down to the Iraq war. The soldiers on the ground, and those who have already made the ultimate sacrifice are too important to me to leave them in the hands of Hillary or Obama, both of who will draw down the troops too fast leaving Iraq in dire straights. The one area I trust McCain is him finishing the job there, and turning up the heat on finding Osama Bin-Laden. I also am certain that Hillary and Obama will do what they can to make the militaries mostly conservative vote less of a factor in future elections. There are a number of ways they can do that, and each method makes the military more liberal and less effective as a battle ready fighting force.

We had Hunter and Thomson to support and didn’t

You are so right on honest, MR!!! I'm proud to be on the same forum with you!

Do you remember that less than a month ago we had FR polls that showed 80% support divided between Thompson and Hunter, and that those folks spent their days trashing Romney, McCain, Giuliani, and Huckabee?

And now all of a sudden, these 3 liberal posers are the Great Hope.

I'm amazed.

I will vote for the best/least bad candidate that has a reasonable chance of winning (that is, no 3d party candidate will likely get my vote). I want a conservative candidate. No one in the race meets the qualifications of what would be my ideal choice. I don’t think, since Reagan, a candidate ever has.

For me it is country first, ahead of party, and even ahead of political philosophy. We do need to work on the GOP to move it to the unabashedly conservative position it held in years past. (That position is a clear winner of elections, and I don’t know why it has been abandoned.)

Perhaps conservatives did not do the job that they should have done this time in getting a viable candidate to run, or perhaps the electorate has moved away from conservatism (I just can’t believe the latter, but I guess it is possible.). In any event, it looks like we are probably stuck with McCain as the candidate.

I will have much less heartburn if Obama is the dem candidate. I think he is beatable, and the risk of him achieving any of his goals is very low, due to his inexperience and naivete. He comes across to me as a genuine person, but misguided, and seeking a position well above his ability.

McCain is far from ideal, but on the most important issue for me, National Defense, he is much ahead of the others. If he is serious about building the wall along our southern border, we can probably finesse the rest of the immigration issue. I am not for amnesty, but I do support controlled, monitored immigration into this country so that we can continue to benefit from the cheap labor. The cheaters should either be sent home or put to the back of the line, but that is an issue more to do with their hispanic brothers than with the US economy. We had laws. We didn’t enforce them for decades. Shut off the flow, assess the problem and deal with it.

Sorry for the exended post.

>Well, so much for her opposition to the McAmnesty bill.

Or maybe she believes that McCain will do as he promised and first secure the border.

She is welcome to, if her conscience will let her. Mine won’t.

“Dennis Prager gave a very good argument why we would be would vote for McCain.”

I am faced with some difficulty in determining the meaning of the above sentence.

I won't lift the cup of hemlock to my own lips.

I won't, either. We shall see how many are with us.

Plus she's still pretty hot. ;^)

I've seen pictures of her where she seems like an attractive woman and I've seen photos, like the one you posted where she looks like a man.

OK, whatever your ideas are that Laura Ingraham has access to inside polls, the point is that Laura has ALWAYS said she will vote for the Republican nominee. This is NOT a new position for her. You obviously do not listen to the show so don’t misrepresent her positions, please.

I’ll bet they already see how it’s going. I’ve heard them talk too many times about how they knew, but they couldn’t say.

You posted this at 8:20 am EST and they know already and you believe it. The only way they could possibly know is voter fraud - things are already in place.

The polls are just opening now.

Well, in NYS they've been open since 6 am EDT. I imagine the campaigns have exit pollsters already working the major metro areas.

Bully for her.
I’m not gonna schlep to the polls for a McNutt candidate.
Ya think that Joe Sixpack is gonna work hard and vote for a “lesser (maybe) of two evils”?
Me neither.

To be fair, Clinton is also pretty safe on this issue. She’s more stalwart than Bill (who supported the Iraq war in the beginning but now has turned tail).

McCain won’t have much to edge Clinton on this issue. He would against Obama.

Thompson and Hunter got taken out before most of us had a chance to support them with our votes. Many of us did support one or both of them with money. Now we have to decide if we can vote for any of the three (really two) left standing. Obviously you can’t, and that’s fine. Write in your preference in November, just don’t stay home and let Hillary get the popular vote by default.

The other thing is that there is this unrealistic idea that we can win every election.

Well that is true, but it’s almost like we are handing it over to the dems on a silver platter instead of at least trying to fight. I guess it is better to ruin McCain after he loses in November than have Romney or someone even more conservative come out in 2012 or 2016 depending on if the Dem can get two terms. I guess McCain can go after commercials after he fails in November.
