Its a caucus, not an all day voting thing like other states.
Everyone gets together and take a vote of who is in the room. These are the results of the first vote:
* Romney - 41%
* Huckabee - 33%
* McCain - 16%
* Paul - 10%
Now they will revote without Paul as an option.
Even if all of Pauls voters go to McCain, it will not be enough and after this vote McCain will be dropped.
They will vote again between Huch and Romney, winner take all.
This is huge because Romney can go on TV and make his victory speech that will be replayed all day as others are going to the polls. He can also claim to have won the last two contests, Maine and now West Virginia. He may even be able to spin it (even though the maine delegates get awarded later) that he is now the leader in total delagates over mCain.
I wouldn’t put it past them.

CHARLESTON — The first round of voting has ended at West Virginia’s Republican Convention.
With 55 counties voting:
Mitt Romney has 464 votes (41%)
Mike Huckabee has 375 votes (33%)
John McCain has 176 votes (16%)
Ron Paul has 118 votes (10%)
Because no candidate won a majority of the delegate votes, a second round of voting will occur between the top three vote-getters: Mike Huckabee, John McCain and Mitt Romney. As soon as those results are known, they will be released to the public.
The Convention is currently taking a one-hour recess, and is scheduled to reconvene at 1:30 PM.
UPDATE: Freddoso hears the Ron Paul backers will determine the winner between Huckabee and Romney.

I’m solidly behind Mitt, but tell me, why do they say “Paul is out”? And, are there rules against delegates in a caucus state moving to another candidate AFTER the caucus is closed? I worry about this, given how Suckabee and McNasty are clearly working together against Mitt.
It can happen, these caucuses are scary. Sometimes all the liberals get together to stop the conservative.
It’s not like primary voters who would have a 2nd choice, some of these people, maybe a lot of them, are dedicated to their candidate, and they could move in lock-step.
So I fear this a bit, because if they move in lock-step, Huckabee could win. But at least it wouldn’t be McCain.
Think Ron Paul voters will vote as a block for Huckabee, propelling him into first place?
What is happening is the McCain people are trying to delay the announcement of a Romney win by going for Huckabee.
It would be HUGH if the MSM had to announce a Romney win in West Virginia before the polls close elsewhere.
so other candidates can join forces and deny Romney win.
I suppose McCain, Huckabee and Paul are willing to do that.
By the look of the votes, it looks like the claim McCain voters are going to Huck to prevent a Romney win rings true.
So this could hopefully be the beginning of a trend.
I really think McCain is going to have problems in all the caucus states. Just a hunch. I plan on voting for Romney in the KS caucus on Sat. and trying my best to get others to do so(family members who would just otherwise stay home). Since KS usually has a primary, I expect only the most politically driven will bother to show up on Sat. and that doesn’t bode well for McCain, IMO.
The paul voters get to vote again. If all of them go to Romney, it’s over. If all of them leave, Romney moves closer to 50%, but so do all the others. If they split their votes, Romney can’t make it in the 2nd round.
The question is how committed are the other delegates to their candidates, and are they committed enough to vote in lock-step for another candidate based on some “deal”.
Also, can it happen in multiple places at once, as I imagine there are more than one voting location.
Some of the other delegates might have to leave as well.
If the top vote-getter does not get 50%, there will be another round of voting. The person with the least amount of votes is dropped from the next round of voting. Paul voters may still vote, but they must choose among the top 3 remaining.
Great news from CA...My other half (who we thought was registered as an Indy) was still down on paper at the voting place as a Repub, and she proudly pulled the lever for Mitt! I, on the other hand, can’t vote for a Republican as I’m an Indy and didn’t switch over 10 days ago before the stupid deadline...
But not on the first vote. If all and only the Paulites go to to Huck, that would leave him 7% below the win %.
