They're not really designed for it, but we have a Seawolf class sub designed to tap underwater cables.

That would be USS Jimmy Carter, SSN-23 (no thread-jacking comments on that name, please). During construction she was cut in half and had a 100' extension inserted aft of her sail. Extension contains a wet-well and all sorts of batcave-type equipment to support divers and submersible/underwater ROVs.

The Carter is so advanced and sensitive that she's homeported with the Pacific Trident sub force at the Trident base in Washington State. The first two Seawolfs, Seawolf and Connecticut, are now/will be (CT just arrived) homeported there as well, partly to consolidate the class in one homeport for logisitical/supply-chain reasons. I wonder whether Carter's out on deployment now ...

The gentleman at the link works for a US firm that monitors all Middle East submarine cables. He doesn't see anything out of the ordinary.

Actually sounds kind of fitting since he was a submariner.

Actually, to keep the record really really straight despite propoganda out of his camp, no he was not. He was only a wanna be who quit/washed out of nuclear power training for reasons that might/might not be legit.

He was a diesel submariner, but resigned his commission during nuclear training.

Our atomic satellite launched “red pin JDAMs” are doing their job admirably, I see. Carry on.

Actually sounds kind of fitting since he was a submariner.

More importantly, he was the President who authorized the some of the first cable-tapping missions against the Soviets ... the very mission USS Carter was reworked to fulfill.

Jimmy Carter was a horrible President, but like a stopped clock twice a day he did get some things right. Tapping the Soviet cables was one of those things (although it needs to also be pointed out that it was Reagan who actively exploited the take from the taps).

Now now, Israel would never do something like that.
