California has long been "Clinton country," but Hillary Rodham Clinton seized Super Tuesday's biggest prize by winning big among women, Latinos, Asian-Americans, gays and lesbians, older voters and working class Californians - which blunted Barack Obama's strong support from African Americans, white men and independents, according to exit polls.
While Obama was able to carry some of the state's progressive centers - including San Francisco, Marin and Santa Cruz counties - Clinton dominated in the voter-rich Democratic strongholds of Los Angeles, Alameda and Santa Clara counties. The New York senator also vacuumed up support in inland areas like Fresno, Riverside and San Bernardino counties.
Clinton's 10-point margin in the state (with 95 percent of precincts reporting) will add to her national lead in the battle for delegates - although proportional rules mean the two candidates will divide California's 370 delegates.
Although no official count was available early Wednesday, state Democratic party officials predict that Clinton will get 20 to 30 more delegates when all results are in. Because of the relatively close finish, they are likely to split delegates in most of the congressional districts with an even number of delegates, while Clinton will pick up an extra delegate in districts that offer an odd number.
Clinton's intense vote-by-mail campaign appeared to pay dividends, giving her a lead in early returns that held up despite polls showing Obama with a late surge heading into Tuesday's vote. She had a narrow edge, 49 percent to 46 percent, with those who made up their minds in the last three days, but held a 17-point advantage among voters who had decided earlier.
As in her other primary victories, Clinton benefited from an enormous gender gap.

Clinton benefited from HISPANIC RACISM, pure and simple...
Hispanics went OVERWHELMINGLY for Clinton, and the Major Media won’t touch that with a 10 foot pole...
Between that, and the massive early voting, before Obama’s momentum took off, she won the state...
VOTE FRAUD
Be prepared for the most corrupt election in history when the Clnton machine really spools up to overcome the Bwitch's unelectability.
“how clinton won california...”
she won it with the support of all the psychotic socialist punks who live there.
If they win, they’ll cut the other branches of the party off at the knees and push through amnesty, thus ensuring that Clinton, Inc., their strategy of Stalinist, slime-dirty politics, and far-left political agenda is the new core of the party.
Hillary is also doing well with Jewish voters because there’s a lot of tensions between blacks and Jews.
I wonder how well she’d have done if you had to produce ID in order to vote.
I’d like some feedback from Cali Freepers about getting a ballot initiative together to require photo ID at Cal polling places for the June election. It’s for sure the legislature won’t do it - they need the illegal vote too much in SoCal.
>>Clinton benefited from HISPANIC RACISM, pure and simple...<<
I listened to Karl Rove’s analysis today and I’m having a hard time agreeing with you.
Minorities support the Clintons. But blacks are largely supporting Obama in the primaries. Whites are split.
I don’t see how to look at that and Hispanic racism. Blacks would likely be joining other minorities to support Clinton. I don’t see how blacks changing to support Obama makes Hispanics racist.
That’s not to say that some aren’t racist - but I can’t see that leaping out from these numbers.
Clinton benefited from HISPANIC RACISM, pure and simple...Hispanics went OVERWHELMINGLY for Clinton, and the Major Media wont touch that with a 10 foot pole
Very much true among the street level Hispanic populationHispanic civil rights leaders [i.e., socialist populists] are in many ways competing with African American civil rights leaders.
In fact, I would predict with the growth of the Hispanic vote as a percentage of the Democrat party in key populated states, Obama may be the last viable Democrat AA presidential candidate. A conservative AA Republican could certainly be a very viable candidate-—and I am still disappointed that Rice did not give the election a try this year. Maybe she is waiting for 2012.
Just for example, we have a local state representative district that is a guaranteed Democrat win based on demographics, and there is a very hotly contested primary race between an Hispanic Democrat incumbent and an African American challenger.
For whatever reason, 60:37 is claimed to be due to a racism and 90:10 is not...
I told everyone way back in August what Hillary was going to do in California. You got to see the playbook. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1882677/posts
I really am very tired of those FReepers who have kept pounding away that Hillary can never win. How dangerously naive.
A dirty little secret is that there are a lot of white Democrats who are racist as well. It's not confined to Latino Democrats. The whole Democrat party is a patchwork of groups who are wary of each other but their lust for feeding at the government trough keeps them all on the same side.
Humboldt County doesn’t have a big ‘Hispanic’ population so that must of factored into the result.
You can also blame this independent conservative because I voted for Obama to at least cancel out my liberal wife’s vote for Her Heinous.
It was a sober choice for me.
Just as Obama is benefiting from BLACK RACISM, pure and simple ...
i.e. about 90% of the voters.
Obama might not have benefited as much from the black vote had the clintons not pissesd them off and been so dismissive of Obama.
“... any democracy will destroy liberty when the ‘have-nots’ discover that they can raid the public treasury for handouts, by electing political scoundrels who promise ‘free’ benefits from government, thus destroying freedom.” - Robert Charlton, FREEDOM MAGAZINE, Spring 74.
As I predicted yesterday (regarding the decline-to-state vote):
“Obama benefited from a wave of independents who turned out for him, but it was not the tsunami he needed. He held a 23-point advantage with “decline to state” voters, but it could not overcome her 21-point edge with Democrats, according to exit polls.”
Ditto.
I hope it is the only time I will be able to vote against a Clinton this year, but I fear not...
