Idaho counters racist image with strong Obama support

Idaho, long mischaracterized as a racist hotbed, was the best state for Sen. Barack Obama on Tuesday. Obama's 80 percent in Idaho topped his 64 percent showing in his home state of Illinois.
Obama's win - his most decisive showing in any state - came three days after he became the first major presidential candidate to visit Idaho near an election since Sen. Frank Church in 1976. Church was a Boise native.
Obama's big margin supplies an effective retort to the wrongheaded claim that racism is tolerated in Idaho.
"It speaks for itself," said Boise Mayor Dave Bieter, who gave the nominating speech for Obama at the Ada County caucus. "His coming here was monumental. I think he would have done well, but that made a big difference."
A crime spree by a handful of neo-Nazis based at the Aryan Nations church in North Idaho in the 1980s led many Americans to say they knew two things about Idaho: potatoes and neo-Nazis.
The Idaho Department of Commerce tailored a promotional campaign to ease the image problem, in part because some employers reported problems recruiting talented minority workers. Never mind that in 2000, a Coeur d'Alene jury awarded more than $6 million to victims of violence by Aryan Nations members. The 20-acre church compound is now a peace park.

If they didn’t vote for obama it’s racist? Wow. Well sign me up. I don’t care that he has no plans other than “change”. I wanna not be a racist.

Obama's main appeal is that he ain't Hillary.
With a little bit of luck, it might take him most of four years to set up a machine anywhere near as corrupt.
He would probably suffer the same fate as Jimmy Carter. Unfortunately, so would the country.

Can you answer a question for me? I kept seeing that Obama (D) won Idaho but I never did see which Republican won it. Do Republicans vote on a different day or did I just miss it?

The ‘tard who wrote this should have seen the turnout for Alan Keyes here in Coeur d’Alene back in 2000. SRO at NIC.

Given that McCain’s backers the OPEN BORDERs society routinely accuse anybody demanding border security are purist/racist I might seriously consider voting for Obama... to prove them wrong. He is at least an American.

“Still not any Black contestants for Miss America willing to wear the state banner.”
Idaho has had a black contestant in the Miss America USA pageant. Her name is Sade Aiyeku and she’s of Nigerian-American heritage. She competed in the Miss USA pageant.
