These are Obama supporters, no doubt. Or many McCain supporters. Hard to tell anymore (via Oregonian blog):

Background:

Oregon’s new drivers’ license rules took effect Monday, and the Oregon Legislature is considering placing the new rules in state law. That sparked demonstrations by groups supporting and opposing the new rules.

The new rules make it more difficult for illegal immigrants to get an Oregon driver’s license, requiring a valid Social Security number and other documentation.

Opponents of the new rules marched around the Capitol in protest, saying the rules are unfair and would end up hurting families. Supporters of the new rules gathered on the front steps of the Capitol, collecting signatures for an initiative that would also limit driver’s licenses to citizens and legal residents. Oregon State Police stood between the two groups.

Kudos to OR, not exactly a conservative state, for moving to firm up licensing rules to require proof of legal presence.

Good move by OR

The only reason why illegals want US drivers licenses is to commit fraud. Let them get their drivers licenses in their own country

Conspiracy to commit identity fraud?
Conspiracy to commit voter fraud?
Conspiracy to commit insurance fraud?
Conspiracy to commit banking fraud?
Conspiracy to commit identity theft grand larceny?
Federal RICO charges?

Every organizer should be served papers and arrested for this massive criminal enterprise.

Why isn’t ICE there with busses and handcuffs?

Oh, that’s right, they’re too busy prosecuting BP agents. Never mind.

Operation Paper Tiger

Counterfeit documents are Paper Weapons. The first weapon a terrorist needs to "FIT IN" in the United States is a document. Once he has this weapon and cover he can then go about his business of causing great harm to the United States and its citizens. Here is a description of the cartel and their scope of operations:

The Castorena Leija-Sanchez crime organization is the major supplier of counterfeit documents/paper weapons in the United States. They are Mexico based and have been operating in the United States for 17 years. They are in every major American city and earn approx.300 million dollars per year....more at http://www.paperweapons.net/

A criminal and/or terrorist might be more "invisible" if he/she gravitates toward "paper weapons" in lieu of applying for a more highly scrutinized (since 9/11) state issued driver's license or other form of legal documentation. Sort of like a gun needed to commit a crime, everything is for sale in the shadows for the right price.

A terrorist does not have to go to all the hassle of "following the rules" to aquire documents that will show proof of legal residency.

Some believe if a person is out of the shadows, it becomes easier to track their movements, then when hiding under the cover of a "fraudulent" existence.

Why can’t these people just use their real identification? - Mexican drivers licenses are perfectly legal in the US

Give them a prisoner ID, and parole them in Mexico. We need to utilize the labor within our own borders, and stop subsidizing alternative labor. The further we get into an economic slow down in the housing and construction industry, the more and more malcontented illegals there will be to march on our streets, demanding something they couldn’t get in Mexico.

A Mexican citizen may legally drive here with a Mexican driver’s license. They are just ligitimized with a visa or green card.

But it is the elite who most often own vehicles within their own country--88% of Mexican elites own one or more cars. The priviledge of having a driver's license is just taken for granted in the U.S.

Was reading this blog contributed to by Mexicans and one says their status or class determines if they can easily come to America and work :

"All the mexicans that go to the States (which most of the are illegal) want to go there in order to win money and enjoy a higher standard of living than they would here in mexico (this only applies towards people from lower classes). For higher classes going to the states to work is a sign of supperiority (this because USA doesn't offer Green Cards to any mexicans, except for the ones that seem to be "worth"). All of them go there because of that. Not because they enjoy being "bullied" around by racist americans."

I do think if we just put a wall up around poverty, we will create a Gaza strip for the next generation to deal with, which could be far more dangerous. Presently few elite families run commerce in Mexico and forty percent of the population is said to live below the (Mexico) poverty line."

John Wahala, a researcher at the Center for Immigration Studies in Washington says, "According to the Inter-Development Bank, remittances sent home by Mexican immigrants amounted to more than $20 billion in 2005--a major source of revenue for the Mexican government."

With 107 million people in Mexico, think of the US as the steam release valve on a pressure cooker for 40% of the population..

This immigration problem which of course encompasses drivers licenses is just not going to be fixed anytime soon. We deal with it in the way that we are forced to live with it...so we must remain vigil.
