NEW YORK Former Gov. Mike Huckabee wasted no time Thursday, telling potential Romney voters that he's the man to take up their conservative, outsider cause.
"I think that I would be a natural choice for them, I certainly hope so," he said to reporters before taping an appearance on The Tyra Banks Show.
"I know that a lot of the establishment Washington-type folks are going to be going with Senator McCain. I understand that. But people of this country need a choice and right now I'm going to be their choice."
Huckabee scoffed at suggestions that a McCain nomination is inevitable despite Huckabee having about a fourth as many delegates as the Arizona senator.
"I still believe this thing is a long way from being settled, and I know that the field is down to two and our chances are substantially improved."
Huckabee added that he had yet to chat with Romney they've played phone tag, according to Huckabee but he plans to ask the former Massachusetts governor for his endorsement.
"I will ask him, certainly. I'm not sure that I can expect to get it," he said.
"I would love to have his endorsement. I would love to have anybody's endorsement. But endorsements of others is not what has fueled my campaign so far and it's not what will fuel it in the future."

If I could vote in another primary, I’d vote Huck over McCain. I’m writing in someone as it is. We should get united on a write-in campaign

Well, he may very well be. But he’s planning on fighting, so he says. If he knocks a few of McCain’s teeth out, I say good. Romney certainly didn’t.

Romney dropped out for the good of the party and the country. Huckabee, who has less support, is not concerned about that.

Long way to go? I don’t see Huck going one more foot now.
The party elites are already in McCain’s camp. It’s over IMO.
John doesn’t need Huck any longer. I Mike sticks it out, look for the long knives to be pulled out of McCains sheath.

Between Huckabee and McCain, I'd have to go with "Huck", but I would have to wear a gas mask to cast my vote for him.
Why have we been reduced to voting for the "least of the bad" instead of the "best of the good"?
I'm thinking that the liberal MSM has had a big hand in putting us in this position.

At least he is consistent....consistently wrong. Wrong on in state tuition, wrong on tax hikes, wrong on "raising hope" and wrong about being a "natural choice". Personally I'm writing in Ronald Reagan. Screw the GOP. The GOP doesn't want me during the primary season, then I don't want them during the general election. I refuse to be like a battered wife, covering for an abusive and philandering husband and continually running back thinking that the situation will change. The moderates are so much more attractive than the conservatives, so be it. Just don't expect this wifey to be willing to reconcile when it's convenient for you. And before anyone gets offended, I'm a woman who's been through an abusive relationship.

He was McCain’s pit bull against Romney, leaving McCain the high ground. Now there is no one for McCain & his crew attack but Huckabee. He will soon wish it was a three man race again. Innuendo and falsehoods kept Romney busy, it will do the same to Huckabee.

Can you imagine McCain/Huckabee versus Clinton/? or Obama/? ?

It’s going to be tough for Huck to take on McCain considering he seems to have a phobia about actually criticizing McCain. What will his campaign be: McCain’s a great guy so vote for me?

I would go just the opposite. I’d vote for McCain over Huckabee in a nanosecond. I may disagree with McCain, but Huckabee’s character is a real issue for me. I think he’s a real weasel.

Who is Huck going to gripe at now? He cant bring himself to say anything bad about his good friend McCain. How on earth will he survive without anyone to whine about?
