A recent IBD/TIPP Poll sheds light on how supporters of candidates who bow out of the race for the White House may end up voting after their main candidate is no longer in the field.......... ...... On the Republican side, those who found Rudy Giuliani appealing as a candidate tend to find Romney more appealing than McCain, although independents for Giuliani tend to find McCain more appealing. Romney also holds greater appeal than McCain among those who find Huckabee to be an appealing candidate.

if huckabee had this same data from his own polling people, it could explain his more direct attacks on Romney - his supporters were less likely to vote for mcpain anyway, ergo, he was not vying with mcpain for the same voters as much as he was vying for them with Romney - his supporters second choice - if the polling data is correct

As I saw earlier today, since Huckabee can’t win, his continuance in the race after South Carolina harmed the GOP.

Either he took votes from Romney, thus giving us McCain. Or if his votes would go to McCain, he kept McCain from winning majority, thus hurting him for the general election.

Either way, he harmed the party he was running for.

That said, he had every right to run, and to keep running. But it should be clear what his impact was.
