Israel helped India turn around Kargil war?

In a startling revelation, the Israeli Ambassador in New Delhi, Mark Sofer, has said that his country had assisted India in 'turning around' the situation during the 1999 Kargil war with Pakistan.
In an interview with a weekly, the envoy disclosed how defence ties between the two countries got a boost after Kargil when Israel came to India's rescue at a critical time, helping turn around the situation on the ground.
'I think we proved to the Indian government that you can rely on us, that we have the wherewithal. A friend in need is a friend indeed,' he said.
He also disclosed that Indo-Israeli defence ties would go beyond mere selling-buying of arms.
'We do have a defence relationship with India, which is no secret. What is secret is what the defence relationship is? And with all due respect, the secret part will remain secret,' he said in the interview to Outlook weekly magazine.
hehehe. Way to go Israel. The Muslims, China, and Russia are all watching and taking note.

Dashgummit, wouldn’t it be nice to have another major power helping us out in the middle east? Smart move for Israel to cooperate with India. Israel and India have some of the same threats and enemies, both potential and extant: current are Pakistani extremists, Afghan extremists, and Iran. Potential and growing threats are China and possibly Russia.

As in sending troops or supplies-Well probably not,unless we are talking of a clash of civilisations genre conflict where India will anyway be on the frontlines.India has to much economic interests(energy & large expat population) in the middle east in addition to a large Muslim population of it’s own.
That being said,you could say that low visibility assitance is ongoing given that India recently launched an Israeli imaging satellite.
We will eventually all surrender or fight to the death against Islam.

Israel has always sought ties with countries on the periphery of the arab states. Turkey, (the Shah’s) Iran & India were obvious & natural allies. Iran has been off the list since ‘79 of course. In the long course of Israeli history relations with India is part of the Theme.

What kind of assistance would India have needed from Israel that they weren’t already getting before Kargil? I’m just curious. Are there any other sources?
Campaigning in Kargil must have presented similar problems for India as Lebanon is for Israel, so operational advise might have been valuable. In both cases your fighting an opponent who infiltrates for the purposes of terror & doesn’t present very many high-value targets.

Dunno how startling it is. I do remember having read, perhaps even at the time of the war, that India received from Israel, with no bureaucratic hassling or nickel and diming, the ammunition needed for it’s Bofors artillery, instrumental in bombing the Pakistani forts established clandestinely.
Electronic intelligence help esp of communications between Pakistani top brass or field formations would have been high on the list given that was one field where India had little experience till then-
There have been virtually no “proven” reports of what Israel did for India other than saying that it provided emergency supplies of guided bombs,the LITENING pods & defensive equipment for aircraft.
