He’s a loon, but I still like his music.
Sorry, the YES! was for your post.
He IS a loon, but I love his music.
lyrics to Cortez the Killer, extolling the virtues of child sacrifice, etc.
He came dancing across the water
With his galleons and guns
Looking for the new world
In that palace in the sun.
On the shore lay montezuma
With his coca leaves and pearls
In his halls he often wondered
With the secrets of the worlds.
And his subjects gathered round him
Like the leaves around a tree
In their clothes of many colors
For the angry gods to see.
And the women all were beautiful
And the men stood straight and strong
They offered life in sacrifice
So that others could go on. [oh, how nice!]
Hate was just a legend [of course not]
And war was never known [nope, never]
The people worked together
And they lifted many stones.
They carried them to the flatlands
And they died along the way
But they built up with their bare hands
What we still cant do today. [really?]
And I know shes living there
And she loves me to this day
I still cant remember when
Or how I lost my way. [what does this have to do with romanticising Montezuma? i think it was all the acid and bong hits, Neil..... ]
Neil Young is one of my most favorite singer songwriters of all time. Began listening to him while in my teens....his voice is either one you love or one you hate.
Unfortunately, as seems to be the case most often concerning most musicians, I cannot abide his politics. So....I tune that out while I tune him in.
*sigh*
Yeah I still like Neil a lot. He’s gone a little moonbat the last few years but he’s had a solid career with lots of great songs
“Hes a loon, but I still like his music.”
Actually, he’s not. He’s very liberal, but also very level-headed, and it’s gotten him a lot of sh*t from the left over the years.
While he criticized Reagan for many things, he supported the arms buildup of the 80’s. He was under no illusion about what the Soviets really were. The whole Rolling Stone crowd gave him years of grief for that.
He was, and still is, all for chasing Al Qaeda down in Afghanistan. But he thought Iraq was a stupid waste.
And he’s never been one of these fools that spits on soldiers.
I don’t like a lot of his opinions, but I respect the guy, and that’s more important.
