Your last line about how hydrazine monopropellant engines work, sounds just like a gaseous emission from Al Gore’s butt.

So that’s how global warming works!

This "journalist" probably got his science education at the same school as Kristina Peterson. She wrote today's story "Rangers find live W.W. I artillery shell in Palo Alto park" in which she says the shell is 0.75 mm in diameter. That's the diameter of a fat mechanical pencil lead!

Today's reporters and editors are total ignoramuses when it comes to science, basic math, measurements, proportion and just plain common sense.

One of the funniest things ever on the original "Saturday Night Live" was John Belushi ranting about the impending fall of the Skylab.

These quotes are from memory so be kind.

"Amongst other things, a 3,000 pound freezer door!

So,there you are, huddling in the corner of your basement with your Civil Defense hardhat on and BAAAAAMMMM!

Flattened like an ant under a flatiron!"

Call me silly, but wouldn’t the hydrazine be among the first things to burn up, high in the atmosphere?

Hopefully it will fall through my roof. I need the money.

If it is going to burn up then why are they worried about secrets. I bet they have a good idea where it’s going.

It would be a shame if it landed on Berkley.

My mom used to tell a story from the early rocket days of the fifties when a scientist was explaining something to reporters about a rocket operating in the vacuum of space. One of the reporters asked, "And just what does this vacuum consist of?" The scientist muttered, "Reporters brains."

Of course, it can be pointed out that this is by no means a ridiculous question, from several points of view ... but that's the story!

Sorry I cant believe your theory. I remember andy griffith built a rocket from old shower heads from a junk yard when I was growing up. Physics... Piffle!

I am thinking of it’s mass in motion, not solar wind. If it started rotating off balance, it would not be rotating around it’s moment of inertia, that means it would be spinning off balance with no correction by retro firing.

That would make the orbit unstable, and if not attempting to keep speed with rotation of the Earth, it would just float and tumble until it got caught in gravity, and with no retro firing to correct orbit, it will fall down instead of fall in a straight line

fall down, go boom!

It is still somewhat interesting to see pre-newtonian physics on FR. There are no forces whatsoever beyond gravity that would make the orbit wobble, although precession is inevitable and easily predictable whether the object is rotating about three axes or not.

having a rotation around something that is not it’s moment of inertia is PRE-Newtonian Physics??

Since I didn’t type a thesis on this, I’ll explain how you missed it.

GRAVITY will pull on this object unevenly if it is rotating on an axis that is not balanced. Since it’s motion is not balanced, the internal force will cause it’s orbital vector to change in the direction of it’s mass as it spins.

The worse it is, the faster it would come down.

Still thinking flogistan?

Saw that scheme years ago on an inertia drive for flying saucers. We had hopes, especially when the inventor built one, but when he made one big enough to carry its own motor it did little but dig a hole in his living room carpet.

It does. It works on a different principle than Kucinich’s flying saucer, which requires only Federal funding.

The lazy a$$ reporter could have taken 10 min and added some facts to the story - but that would have been too much. OY!

Now, now...you don't know that he's lazy. Could be that he was pulled off the heart-healthy recipe forum to write this and put in eleven hours at wikipedia getting up to speed on what an orbit was. Should gave gone for 12.

It took you 10 minutes because you have some underlying understanding of the science and tech involved. You knew what you were looking for and could recognize it when you saw it. Thanks.
