My (hopefully temporary) withdrawal speech

The die is cast. The race is set. We are faced with either Lucrezia Borgia or Jar Jar Binks on one side and a choice of Napolean or the love child of Jim Bakker and Jimmy Carter on the other. O frabjous joy!

I have run my race. In this election cycle, in regards to the presidency.  I no longer have a candidate I can support in this election.  I have been disenfranchised, largely by the dinosaur media, the elite insiders who serve them and who they serve in turn, and the sheeple who mindlessly follow them.

I am burned out on politics and politicians. I am particularly finished with agenda journalism and the airheads who practice it.  I used to watch, read, or listen to news all the time, but since not so super Tuesday I have avoided it like the plague.

I need to regroup, rethink, decide what is achievable, what is worth doing and how best to go about it.  I can't do that if I let the noise of what I currently consider a no win situation to overwhelm all other considerations, so I'm going to not pay attention to "horse race '08" for awhile.  Perhaps there is a way to gain something from one of the remaining bad outcomes that is at least "less bad" than  any other, but right now it isn't clear what that might be.  There may also be other things that would be better to pursue, politically, but I've paid no attention to any other political issues for way too long to be able to identify anything worth doing.

I haven't been participating here as much as I used to, anyway.  Over the last month I've missed several weeks of posting this preview thread.  That's not likely to change anytime soon.  As most of you know I've been dealing  with several personal issues.  That's all been more public than it really needed to be, but I appreciate more than I can possibly convey all of the support that I have received here as I've dealt with those issues.  None of it is resolved, but it's neither worse nor is it better.  It just seems to get more complicated with time.

For the foreseeable future there's no way I can see to commit to being able to do this thread regularly, so until that's resolved I'm officially suspending posting it.  I will still stay on FR, and will try to participate in the Sunday thread.  I look forward to getting my personal issues resolved so that I can get more involved again. Who knows? I might even have figured something out about our current political landscape worth posting by then.

Thanks for all you have done... your preview threads have been so good and thoughtful.

I’m in the same boat as you are (and it’s leaking badly).

I’m actually pleased to hear the latest about Britney Spears or what Heath Ledger died from.

It’s better than politics right now.

I can’t figure out how this happened. Did aliens take over our planet unbeknownest to us?

Please don’t desert us completely. I will probably still read the Sunday morning talk show thread, but that’s about it.

None of the shows tomorrow seem worth watching, certainly not the Huckabee ones. Might watch Fox.

Best wishes for all the personal issues for you and your Dad.

Thank you Phsstpok for all that you have done for FR. I looked forward to reading your take on the Sunday morning gabfests every week. I have no dog left in this race either. You are in good company.

Thank you and God Bless you and your family,
gpapa

Don't get burned out on politics that's exactly what both parties want! the RNC and DNC. We are now fighting them both,IMHO.

From my standpoint the RNC is behind the Fla. RINO capitulation that got the lemming vote for McCain in FLA.

Many of the Cubans will vote lockstep when necessary and enough did to get Mitt kicked out of the race.

It's a dam shame but our best course of action from here is not to pout, stay home, third party, write in or do any of the dumb things that fall right into the hands of the rats.

Our best course of action is from here on out to fund only conservatives and defund the RNC whenever and wherever possible.

They will continue to treat us like dirty laundry or like the dems treat the blacks if we let them.

Until we are powerful enough to knock them on their ass they will continue to use us and then discard us.

We need to play the game with some smarts instead of emotion. This is our party and with voices like Limbaugh,Levin hannity and others behind us we will win, its just a matter of time.

Thanks for all that you have contributed for such a long time. I agree that suspending such close attention to politics is a rational decision, based on the future being a total dense fog.

Nice to know that President Bush will be on Fox tomorrow morning, but even so, we probably can pre-write all the gotcha questions that Chris Wallace will ask him.

Time for listening to books-on-tape and catching up on videos that I have missed over the years.

I keep telling myself that the majority of people in all cultures in all ages of the world have lived their lives without being able to influence the control of power in their environment, so I will try to get myself into that kind of zone, for the sake of my sanity.

As a Republican in Maryland, I have already had a lot of experience in that kind of environment.

Hi my friend!

AS you know, I haven’t been here for a long time.

I have read every Pre-View thread you have done though. They have been one of my very favorite things here. The Sunday Talk Show thread being another.

I know you are going through personal issues, and I pray they get better for you, and all who are involved.

However, I must say that I am right there with you on this whole election thing. Somehow, I think our party, our policies..and values...just disappeared.

What happened to integrity and character? I know one person that is full of integrity and character, and that is you, Phsstpok. You have been a wonderful guide in many ways through the media circus and political circus.

Take care, get well...and I hope to see you soon.

“We need to play the game with some smarts instead of emotion.”

You wrote some wise words.

Voting 3rd party only hurts the R’s.

Summary of preview threads From January 26, 2006 to the present.

FWIW, nearly all of the issues are persistent, as in unresolved, in that two year time period.

Take a break. You have been through a lot this year and last then come back stronger than ever.
Either way you will always have a bunch of FRiends here regardless of which course you take.RG

You need a well earned break I have purposefully not involved in many of the primary race threads/discussions at this forum or other forums that I belong to. I have lurked on a few and early days maybe even posted on a few but when I saw where they were leading I often stopped lurking on them.

I do not want to hear people that I respect and have grown fond of over the years go on melt down which in some cases I understand others seem over the top.

I would rather wait until the primaries are over and people have regrouped and decided what they are going to do in November before I join the more controversial threads.

Until then the most political ones I intend to involve myself in are Sunday Talk Show Thread and the Dose the other threads I will participate in will be more social ones.

Take care and I trust the personal issues work their way out - be thinking of you.

At present as I have just posted on the preview thread I am only participating on this thread and dose plus a few social threads until things are more resolved.

I am also doing this at other forums that I belong to as I do not want to see people who have know each other over the years tearing into each other rather than behaving like responsible adults and agreeing to disagree.

I, too, have not been posting many comments, lately. To be honest with you I have become quite frustrated with the whole political process.

On the Democrat side, a black man and white woman are vying for the nomination. The white woman will get votes because of her gender, and the black man will get votes because of his race. The Democrat voters have a tough decision. Race and gender have been two of their concerns for decades. What to do, what to do.

On the Republican side, we have two white men vying for the nomination. One is an angry politician, and the other is a preacher. The politician is running because he feels like it’s his time. The preacher is running because he thinks he knows better than anyone else how to run our country. The politician does not get the support of the Real Conservatives and jabs his stubby fingers in our eyes and stabs his long dagger in our backs, and the preacher is clueless and dense to what we Real Conservatives think and believe and, quite frankly, should stay behind the Sunday pulpit and do what he is trained to do.

I have no comments for the Doctor who wants to be CIC.

The Virginia primary is Tuesday, and I want to vote. The problem is simple, but the solution is difficult. For whom shall I vote? No matter what I do, I will have to hold my nose and press the screen for something, because someone is not on the ballot.

WHAT TO DO, WHAT TO DO.
