DALLAS, TX -- A man accused of raping a woman at knifepoint in a Dallas apartment was beaten by an angry mob and shot at least twice, authorities said.

The 26-year-old man, who was not identified, underwent surgery Friday after being hit with a baseball bat and shot, apparently once in the head, according to a report in Saturday editions of The Dallas Morning News. Authorities did not immediately know the suspect's condition Saturday.

Dallas police Lt. Sally Lannom said for a vigilante mob to attack a man accused of rape is unusual.

"It is outside the norm," she said.

The boyfriend and some others confronted the suspect in the apartment, and a fight began. Police said the fight led out into the parking lot, with an unknown number of people taking part.

The suspect in the rape eventually broke free and ran into another apartment, where he was shot.

We had an attorney here in CT whose young daughter was molested and the strange old man in the nest door apartment was the prime suspect. The father confronted and shot the old man whose DNA, it turns out, didn't match that of the perpetrator.

Another suspect was arrested and confessed when his DNA was a match. The father is doing a 20 year sentence.

The legal process we have is imperfect. It evolved over many centuries to deal with situations like this. I hope the rapist dies a horrible death but vigilante and mob justice are pretty awful things.

This is exactly what is needed for all inner cities to do within their neigborhoods. Grab guns and baseball bats and go to every gang member, drug dealer or gangster’s home and shoot and/or beat the chit out of them.

"... but vigilante and mob justice are pretty awful things."

The phase, "Taking the law into your own hands" does not fit with our Constitution. The People have never given up the law. Laws are ours, not designated to the government or a agency of government.

We hire government and various agencies on a temporary basis to do our dirty work. When they prove they are not up to the tasks for which they were hired, WE do it!

Would the “He just needed killing” defense work here?

It is outside the norm,” she said.

It slowly becoming the norm because of the lax Judges who let these pervs go with a slap on the wrist. Their is a loose cannon down here in Florida Bruce Young who raped 7-10 women while working as a nurse in the hosiptal my wife works in.He just escaped by walking out of the Prison he should have been given the death sentence and had it carried out. Now he is out to do it again.Lock and load.

The liberals think they are creating a gentler society by not having severe punishment for violent criminals. They don’t consider that when people have lost faith in the system, people are more likely to resort to things like mob violence.

“Vigilante” is always a term used by the pro-crime element in our society

We have too many here in America who value the rights of criminals over the rights of victims and citizens.

Good thing those Dallas people stepped up. It is the only way we will control crime

No word on his political affiliation or immigration status - must mean he’s an illegal alien who voted Democratic.

If this rape had happened 60-70 years ago, brothers, fathers, uncles, cousins, grandfathers, etc. would have pummeled the perv the same. We had much fewer crimes back then, didn’t we?

The perv has the right to a speedy trial.

It sounds like judge, jury and executioner where all present.

It happened in Texas so yes, yes it would!

Now, don’t try that in Kalifornia, but it would work here in Texas!

Yeah...I remember that one. The little girl (I think she was about four) evidently (mis)identified the next door neighbor as the perp. That was a bad case.

Yes, handle crime and criminals just like they do back home in whatever 3rd world hellhole they came from! Maybe our country be as safe as El Salvador or South Africa?

And some of you WANT that?
