They make war on our alliances, in preparation of making war on our armies.

NATO Keeping An Eye On China

They'd better. If they looked closer, they would see OPEC's consideration of moving off the dollar and over to the Euro as having Chinese puppet-strings all over it.

Since China is the last serious, modern threat to the US, then why are we not proactively, and covertly, trying to neutralize them?

That is, why isn’t the CIA busily trying to undermine their government, interfere with their military buildup, or otherwise trying to forestall what for many years now has looked like an inevitable conflict?

The Cold War was terribly frustrating, because most of it consisted of the US trying to hold the line against the Soviet Union. And even though we had a top spy confidant with the Politburo leadership, we mostly sat on our hands with a static defense.

How much sooner would the Soviet Union have fallen, if we had actively sabotaged their system, like they tried in many ways to do to ours, and with some success?

And China is not the impressive monolith we thought that the Soviet Union was. It is unstable, yet scheming and belligerent, treacherous, and yes, trying to undermine us as well.

Subtly destabilizing China should not be terribly difficult, and could set back their military program by years.
