This year’s Presidential campaign has proven to be one of the most interesting and unexpected phenomena of the past several decades.
With it, this year’s contenders are breaking down barriers: the first female candidate, the first African-American candidate and a lone wolf Republican who is breaking step with his party to bemoan the war in Iraq, national ID cards and the Patriot Act.
We’ve heard from a member the Mormon community for the first time as well as a former evangelical minister who plays bass wouldn’t mind seeing tobacco outlawed.
All of these things certainly add to the color of the Presidential candidate’s race, but none are so inexplicable as the run and success of Senator John McCain.

Anyone that would kiss McCain's ass like this is probably a useful idiot of the left.
Anyone who uses the term “Swiftboating” as a pejorative is too simple-minded to bother with...
Please, someone, tell me who President Nixon "fleeced" while in the White House? Wasn't Watergate about a break-in to the opponents campaign offices seeking dirt and the cover-up of same, or am I getting forgetful?
Swift-boating means telling the truth.
In this case, I think the author is using “Swiftboating” the way we would: Truth-telling about John McCain’s past misdeeds and character deficits.
The line that Americans wouldn’t tolerate another crook in the White House cracked me up. Hillary, anyone?
Actually the lone-wolf Republican in the initial part is the Congressman from Texas, Mr. Ron Paul.
“first African-American candidate”
Jesse and Al beg to differ...
Success, the piece of garbage won less than fifty percent of the vote and his voters were liberal and liberal independents. Now we get to see if the liberals want a true democrat are a Democrat lite.
Yep, I missed that.
Then again, I ain't good with big fancy words.
Ditto!
The only reason the leftist media has coronated John McCain is because he will be the easiest to destroy in the runup to the general election.
It would be as if the Patriots had been able to pick their opponents for the SuperBowl this year.
Of course they'd have selected the Dolphins.
“I didn’t realize McCain was breaking ranks with the party to “bemoan the war in Iraq”.”

He’s not. That line is referring to Ron Paul.
Swiftboating?
AKA truth telling?
We need much more swiftboating in politics.
“Swiftboating,” by definition, means to tell the ugly truth about someone right? That is what the Swift Boat vets did.
> Nixon was not a thief. You are correct. <
A thief? No. A crook? Probably.
