'Resign,' clergy tell archbishop of Canterbury

A senior clergyman in the Church of England is calling for the resignation of the archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams, because of his comments promoting Islamic sharia law in Britain.

The comments were reported by the Times Online, which said the reaction from the "long-standing member of the church's governing body, the General Synod," was just a part of the backlash against Williams over his comments.

WND has reported that Williams, chief of the 70-million strong worldwide Anglican Communion, has advocated for establishment of Islamic law, drawing a rebuke from Prime Minister Gordon Brown, among others.

The Times Online reported the Synod member, who insisted on anonymity, reported, "A lot of people will now have lost confidence in him. I am just so shocked, and cannot believe a man of his intelligence could be so gullible. I can only assume that all the Muslims he meets are senior leaders of the community who tell him what a wonderful book the Quran is."

"I don't suppose he will take any notice, but yes, he should resign," he told the newspaper.

The report said the Bishop of Southwark, the Right Rev. Tom Butler, also challenged the idea, saying it would take "a great deal more thought and work" before he could find the idea acceptable.

The controversy follows the developing split in the Anglican Community over homosexuality, as up to a quarter of the 800-plus Anglican bishops worldwide plan to boycott the church's annual Lambeth Conference this year. The church's American branch, the Episcopal Church, has adopted a pro-homosexual agenda, leading some U.S. congregations to abandon their national leadership if favor of more conservative leaders from Africa.

Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams, is the homosexual guy they appointed. Interesting that he thinks sharia law is inevitable in Great Britain.

Perhaps Rowan Williams is homosexual...if so, this is the first time I heard that.

But the furor over openly homosexual clergy came from the appointment of an avowed one as a bishop in the American Episcopal church. Forget the guy’s name but I’m sure someone will supply it. That is what led to the split in the American Anglican community.

To the point about Sharia Law...of course it’s outrageous and stupid for him to say that. But you understand, don’t you, that he doesn’t want Sharia Law for himself and other non-Muslim Brits...he’s talking about Sharia Law for British Muslims.

But how ignorant can he be?

So he’ll stand silently by while they start gouging out eyes and chopping off hands and feet and heads, and raping/killing young girls in “honor” killings??

What planet does he live on?

If he refuses to resign then he needs to be thrown out!

my take below....

"Our modern western definition of humanity is clearly not working very well. There is something about western modernity which really does eat away at the soul." so says Britain's leading Islamophile and closet druid Rowan Williams the Archbishop of Canterbury.

Hopelessly naive, if not anachronistic it seems almost predictable that Rowan Williams, a pagan druid, completely devoid of any moral compass would seem to revere the austere primitive purity of Rousseau's "noble savage". But William's 'conflict of conscience' is more founded in what Ratzinger referred to as a "pathological self-hatred" rather than his own misguided philosophical beliefs.

“Gay” Gene Robinson of NH. Time magazine had a front cover at the time of Robinson in his golden robes. When I saw that, it was the first time it occurred to me that Christianity was going to be defeated, from within.

“Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams, is the homosexual guy they appointed”

There has never been any indication Williams is homosexual, only that he has advocated the gay community’s position in the past. He claims his goal at Canterbury is to be a “uniter.” That PC word we hear a lot in US politics.

“...he Synod member, who insisted on anonymity, reported....”

Profiles in courage like this are why the denomination is so largely apostate.

Ah, for more men in the mold of J. Gresham Machen.

Got a source for this, or are you confusing him with someone else?

You were probably thinking of Gene Robinson the Episcopal bishop over all of New Hampshire. That was the name I couldn’t supply, but others supplied it for me.
