No time to spit into the wind

Barack Obama is hot, hot, hot. Comparisons leap to mind — Eugene McCarthy and his student legion, eager to shave, bathe and "get clean for Gene," even George Wallace in early September of '68.

The Internet is awash with tributes, declarations of undying fealty, pornographic mash notes, even love songs: "... you can barack me tonight ...." The Internet is awash with millions of dollars for the man from Illinois. If Hillary Clinton isn't terrified, she should be.

It's difficult for even the most level-headed pundits and pros to step far enough back to cast a cool-enough eye on the proceedings. Geoff Elliott, the Washington correspondent for the Australian, the national newspaper, compares the Obamafication of the American presidential campaign, or at least the Democratic half of it, to the deification of Nelson Mandella in South Africa two decades ago. He recalls the Mandella stump speech promising that "when elected every household will have a washing machine," and when the candidate actually became the president, clerks in Cape Town department stores turned away crowds of South Africans demanding their free washers and dryers.

The promise of a free washing machine was meant as metaphor, to be no more exacting than the famous American promise of a chicken in every pot, of Huey Long's vow to make every man a king. Politicians count on their constituents to discount such promises as entertaining demagoguery. Sometimes they don't. Many of the millions of Americans who have succumbed to Obama fever — male, female, white, black, young, old — give the impression they would stand in line for free Kool-Aid.

"How does a cult figure, in the eyes of some something akin to a messiah," asks the Australian, "make the transition to a political frontrunner — president even — where disappointment will soon crush what seemed to be a journey to a promised land?" It's the question nobody wants to hear.

It is the Rhetoric that the Totalitarian leaders and mass murderers of history have used to sway nations...
It is the Good Us (Obama and his backers) vs. the bad them (Conservatives) it is WE the People, trying to unify a country divided... It is using Civil Rights era Rhetoric to show the ignorance of some as compared to the enlightenment of the many... It is the power of pointing out the Political system that is Divided by those that do not agree with our ideology, with our pursuit of what is good, Healthcare for everyone, an economy that reaches to every level to every pot, a nation that feeds every mouth, that heals all the wounds of war, A nation that stands together against the threat, yet rises up against no other nation, it is the melding of the two America’s, it is historical it is Ask not what you can do for your country, ask what your country can do for you, Yes a government that understands its People and shares the common vision, Free education, Free healthcare, a guarantee of your American dream and all you have to do is vote for me!

The alternative is clear there is a group of them who are bad and divisive those that will fight us those that do not agree with our ideas, those that are intolerant of people, intolerant based on race, creed, gender, age, and sexual preference, those that would limit the ability of man to use science to cure the ills of our nation, those that believe they can tell a women what she can and cannot do to her body, bad men who need to be shown the truth and the way...

We will embrace them all they need to do is put down their guns, put away their hatred, lower their voices and join hands with us and together we will ascend to the House that once was white but is now the multi-colored truth of one nation...

You see its not that hard... Yet at his rallies Women weep openly, grown men misty eyed and the Young wide eyed like cult worshippers sipping on their sanctified Kool Aid that bring them to the promised land....

If you think that Obama isn’t the scariest political candidate to come along in a generation.... lol ... then you my friend have been assimilated.

I guess I’m just not a teeny bopper. Something about those jug ears that indicates to me that Obama has feet of clay.

"Barack Obama offers a blank slate to anyone who inquires about specifics. He speaks in parables flavored with nuance and evasion."

He's a silvertongued Marxist, or worse.

All you have to do is photoshop the head, and it’ll look like everyone of his campaign stops.

Obama fever is sweeping the country.

It will leave lots of folks in dissolution, asking themselves, “What was I thinking?”

I have seen this happen after the Governor Deval Patrick campaign in Massachusetts.

I see O’Bama as Eugene McCarthy with similar results in the election. If he can take out the Clinton’s that is a big plus!

I have my Webster's New World Dictionary. (1968)

I came upon an interesting word. Demagogue. Herewith the definition:

(1)A person that tries to stir up the people by appeals to emotion, prejudice etc. in order to become a leader and achieve selfish ends.

I am, of course, not referring to the present candidates for the US presidency. I am talking about the rise to power in Canada of Pierre Eliot Trudeau. The buzz word was charisma, in spades yet. It is indisputable that he drastically changed Canada. Those whose former rights of free speech, who are now being put through a civilized hell, will attest to that.

PS. Too bad we did not have an electoral college.
