"STRATFOR.com: "IRAN'S CONTINGENCY PLAN" (ARTICLE SNIPPET: "Sources in Hezbollah say Mugniyah is spending most of his time these days in Lebanon and has in many ways overshadowed Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah as the organization's strongman. These reports align with similar indications that a split is deepening within Hezbollah's leadership over how to manage its affairs with Syria and Iran. Mugniyah has had a close relationship with Iran's Ministry of Intelligence and Security.") (October 25, 2007, 18:45 GMT) (Read More...)"

Now it looks even more like a turf war.

“Hizbullah announces Imad Mugniyah killed”

SNIPPET: “Senior Hizbullah military leader believed to be the mastermind behind attacks against Jewish center in Buenos Aires in 1994 and US military barracks in Beirut in 1983 killed in mysterious blast in Damascus. Hizbullah blames Israel”

News agencies
Published: 02.13.08, 11:00 / Israel News

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Israel declined to comment on Mugniyah’s death.

“We have released no statement on this matter,” said Mark Regev, spokesman for Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, after Hizbullah accused Israel of being behind Tuesday’s attack.

Mugniyah is believed by Israel to have been involved in planning the 1992 bombing of Israel’s embassy in Argentina in which 29 people were killed and the blast at a Buenos Aires Jewish center two years later that killed 95.

The Hizbullah commander was also involved in numerous terror attacks on Israel’s border with Lebanon, including the kidnapping of Israeli soldiers Benny Avraham, Adi Avitan and Omar Souad, and apparently also the abduction of Eldad Regev and Ehud Goldwasser.”

It could be, or it could have been a work accident.

Whatever, if he’s confirmed dead — that is very good news.

“’Mugnhiyeh was co-founder of Hizbullah’”
By KHALED ABU TOAMEH

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Born in the Lebanese city of Tyre in 1962, Mughniyeh did not attract attention until 1976, when he joined Force 17 as a sniper targeting Christians on the Green Line dividing West and East Beirut.

Mugniyah has since been implicated in numerous terrorist attacks against the US, France and Israel in which hundreds of people were killed. These include three in 1983: the bombings of the US Embassy in Beirut and barracks housing US Marines and French paratroopers who were part of the Multinational Force in Lebanon.

He has also been linked to the Karine A weapons ship that Arafat tried to use to smuggle arms into the Gaza Strip in 2001.

On October 10, 2001 Mughniyeh appeared on the FBI’s first “Top 22 Most Wanted Terrorists” list. A reward of $25 million was offered for information leading to his capture.”

“Mughniyeh was killed in a car bombing in Damascus late Tuesday night.”

If he was in the car, that makes him Abu Bin Akar in my book.

This is a great day in the war against the islamists. This vermin was responsible for being the mastermind of the killing of our heroes in Beiruit back in 1983.

Imad, the shia terrorist mastermind, was a major player. This is a big defeat for the islamists. It is the equivalent of the Southern forces losing Stonewall Jackson. Mugniyah was a brilliant strategist and a tactical genius. This is a severe blow to our enemies.

THANK YOU IDF!!!!!!!!!!

DAMASCUS (Reuters) - A car bomb exploded in a residential area of the Syrian capital on Tuesday, killing one man and injuring two, witnesses said.

“We saw security officers hauling the body away,” one of the witnesses said.

Security officials at the scene refused to comment.

Witnesses saw a mangled white car being towed away by police who cordoned off the area, which houses an Iranian school, a police station and a main Syrian intelligence office.

No further details were immediately available but the witnesses and a Palestinian source in neighboring Lebanon said the blast was caused by a bomb planted inside the vehicle.

A few more details...

“Hizbullah’s Imad Mughniyeh Killed, Israel Blamed”

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “American intelligence officials have described Mughniyeh as Hizbullah’s operations chief and was believed to have moved between Lebanon, Syria and Iran in disguise.

His last public appearance was believed to be at the funeral of his brother Fouad, who was killed on Dec. 12, 1994, when a booby-trapped car blew up in Beirut’s southern suburbs.

Syrian security forces on Tuesday quickly sealed off the area of the blast and removed the destroyed Mitsubishi Pajero, which had its driver’s seat and the rear seat blown away by the force of the explosion.

Witnesses in Damascus said that a passerby was killed as security forces removed the body, but Syrian authorities would not give details.

Iran’s English-language satellite station Press TV said an Iranian school and a Syrian intelligence office were in the same area of Kafar Soussa where the explosion occurred.

Mughniyeh’s assassination was the first major attack against a leader of Hizbullah since the 1992 helicopter strike that killed the party’s secretary-general Sheikh Abbas Moussawi in southern Lebanon.(AP-AFP-Naharnet)”
