That is uncalled for. You realize that Jesus Christ followed the custom of cleansing, right?
Let's take what another poster mentioned about holy water stalls being paid for by public money and the "outrage" that would follow. Say these stalls were in fact built. What would happen if a non-Christian person decided to urinate in one? Would that person be charged with a hate crime? Heck, would that person even be charged with any crime? We all know the answer is a firm "NO." Heck, Congress might even fund the act as a work of art (not my original idea, but it applies anyway).
Now I guarantee that if a non-Muslim decided to defile one of these footbaths, they would be charged with every hate crime imaginable.
I am aware that the people of Jesus’ time washed their feet (and there are references to the cleaning of other peoples’ feet).
Did they actually perform the Islamic wudu ritual on themselves and start over when they farted?
Actually, His apparent disregard of the elaborate washing customs of the day contributed to the enmity of the authorities.
And the pope performs symbolic foot-washing to this day. We're talking about customs formed by desert people who wore sandals, so I'm sure their feet got pretty grimy.
The original article does note that, at least according to some imams, a symbolic wiping of the outside of the sock is sufficient.
Many of the Jews of today do, also. However, they do not insist on Jewish washing stations, because *they* have been discriminated against. For some reason, the Muslims are over-indulged, rather than faced with discrimination.
