The blood thinner drug Heparin has been put on hold by Baxter, as the multiple-dose vials were found to cause severe reactions in patients.
Patients were seen having severe reactions to the drug Heparin which include vomiting, dropping blood pressure to the point where they can go into shock, and more.
The FDA stated that they were going to review Heparin further.
There have been four reported deaths from Heparin in the multi-dose vials thus far.
The FDA stated that the only issues came with the high dose vials of Heparin. The lower dose Heparin patients did not see nearly any of these bad reactions to the drug.

Our son takes a daily antibiotic for his acne. I’ve noticed a distinct difference between the effectiveness of the branded product and the supposedly equivalent generic item. The drug store has hissy fits when I insist on the branded item, but I suspect the generic is being manufactured in China and is not at full strength. It’s as though he’s taking sugar pills - zero effectiveness. When he switches back, his skin improves in a few days. Very disturbing.
What now, polar bear liver or rat poison?

They only make a bigger profit and have just as many reasons to import the Chinese ingredients as the generic cos.
A dose of Heparin is routinely given us before each of our thrice-weekly treatments. It is to avoid clotting in the dialysis machine, tubing and filter. Or in the veinous grafts some of us have in our arms.
Dialysis patients be aware.

He takes Amoxicillin. The branded drug is manufactured by my husband’s employer, so at least we get a break on the co-pay. I have a bit more faith in GSK than in no-name generics. I realize they outsource production as well. There’s no perfect solution, except perhaps to have perfect health and never to need medicine. Sigh.
I received Heparin shots in my stomach, every day, when I was in the hospital with Atrial Fibrillation, during Christmas week. The only side effect was bruising, and with my stretch marks going through one of them, it looked like a football with lacings! LOL! When I went in for a Heart Catheterization, I pointed it out to the nurses and one of them suggested they write “Go Patriots” under it. ;o)
I didn’t know they prescribed Amoxil for acne. Our son was prescribed minocycline.
There are several options. When it makes sense medically, we request that our prescribing physicians use the company’s formulary. It supports the “home team” and costs us less. When a prescription is for extended daily use, the co-payments start to add up. It’s been working for him, fortunately.
