Border residents complained to a House panel Thursday that the Homeland Security Department has been unwilling to listen to them as it builds a security fence along the U.S-Mexico border.
The complaints stem from the federal government's effort to build 700 miles of fence along the southern border, required by a 2006 law signed by President Bush. The Homeland Security Department wants to finish about 370 miles by the end of the year.

How’s that for a twist? Locals complaining that Johnny Sutton and the Feds are playing hardball.
One reason Texas doesn’t get it , they don’t have large cities along the border and are not impacted.
We both live in San Diego, pop. 3 million and our southern border runs along Tijuana, Mexico pop, 1 million.
The tens of thousands of illegals, the cost and their crimes are out of control.
Also the border crossing is the largest and busiest in the world.
The townhall meeting was held at KGTV Channel 10. It consisted of 200 locals with the opportunity to address Ridge on the border issue. Almost without exception we wanted Ridge to address the open borders. But he refused to even acknowledge the issue. We know now why. Bush is a open-borders liberal.
I remember watching Ridge on that townhall here some yrs. back.
And then the Prez is giving over 1 billion so the Mexicans can secure their souther border.
I was there, as were many other civic leaders wanting answers. We left without them.
And then the Prez is giving over 1 billion so the Mexicans can secure their souther border.
I've always thought it hypocritical of Mexico to defend it's southern border while criticizing us for doing the same. And bush, of course, is a part of it.
It sounds more like they want their property protected. The Feds tear up miles of property owners' fences, and put up car barriers. The farmers are out thousands of bucks, and will lose more if their livestock walks away.
Property protected? When the Mexicans take over they won’t have any property or rights of an American citizen.
I watched first hand over 50,000 Mexicans marching with marxist signs, Mexican flags, etc.
Tax payers in San Diego spend tens of millions of dollars a year supporting illegals and they also bring their crime over the border.
Just 15 miles south of me are major gun battles in the streets of Tijuana, kidnappings, beheadings, drug cartels, etc.
Even so, if it was my land I would want the fences repaired if the government tore them down.
When the take over comes, the folks south of me are taking the land also.
This is just another theater of war.
The double fence needs to be up now.
From El Paso to Brownsville, there are plenty of cities on the Texas border. Juarez, has 1.3 million Mexicans across the 6 inch deep Rio Grande. It’s just that Texas is so much bigger than California, it doesn’t seem like it’s such a problem there.
DHS is doing nothing and it is they who are probably behind these fake criticisms directed at themselves for the purpose of making them seem like they are really active and serious about protecting the borders. This is supposed to make their critics back off.
The impact on Calif. especially San Diego and Southern Calif. in general with illegals is beyond the extream.
San Diego population is 3 million and we are the size of the state of Connecticut.
North of San Diego is Orange co. and LA with a combined pop of over 13 million.
Hospitals, social services, schools, jails, prisons all used by millions of illegals costing Calif. tax payers into billions. Our American culture is being lost.
The San Diego - Tijuana border is 24 lanes of traffic backed up for a mile or more every day.
The beginning of the fence is in the Eastern part of the county and is supposed to continue.
Just last month, the streets in Tijuana south of San Diego has troops, and cartells fighting in the streets like Bagdad two yrs. ago.
The constant killings, kidnappings, beheadings, etc. is out of control.
