Ishmael was the half brother of Isaac. Isaac took Rebecca for a wife and they had twins, Jacob and Esau. Jacob took Rachel for a one of his wives and they had Joseph and Benjamin.Ishmael would become the father of the future muslims. But muslims are people who followed the so called prophet Muhammud who was a future generation coming out of Ishmael. He had no religious ties to Joseph.

He had no religious ties to Joseph.

that's wrong. Mohammed took elements of the Jewish faith (there was a large community of Jews in Mecca and in Medina, why in Medina, the Jews were the ones who sheltered Mohammed when the Meccan pagan Arabs through him out ), from a Christian heresy (Arianism) and from pre-islamic arab paganism (that's the "Satanic verses" where Mo tells Muslims to pay respects to Ul-izzat, Amaat and Izzat, the three daughters of God, who were pre=Islamic goddesses who had idols kept in what is now the Ka'aba (the big black tent in Mecca).

You could say he had no "familial" ties to Joseph, but even that would be probably wrong. As I said, Joseph would, at the very least be his great, great... uncle (through Ishmael), but, more likely, in the 2600 years between Joe and Moe, and considering that there were Jews in Mecca, there MUST have been intermingling of bloodlines.
