In your dreams.
And those vaunted "independents" aren't going to vote for McCain anyway in the general election. Global warming, campaign finance reform....they'll just get the real thing from the Democrats.
Thanks-I have been called a turncoat, a purist and other less attractive epithets because I believe McCain is more dangerous than either Dem candidate.
I'll hold my nose if McCain chooses a Sanford or a Mike Pence as VP - and he only serves one term.
The base will appreciate the threat from the fabians, fascists and fidels (muzzies).
The Florida Republican Party privately believes that there is a core of 5% of the conservatives who will not, under any circumstances, vote for McCain. I think the party is being optimistic. The only way the base unites is if there’s a large scale terrorist atatck on our soil between now and then, and since the terrorist leaders pay attention to our politics, I don’t expect that to happen.
I phrased that wrong. To be precise, the party at this point in the process believes that 5% of Florida Republican voters will stay home in November. They’re panicked about what that means lower down on the ballot.
He could dye his hair and get some jellybeans.
The GOP brought this on themselves since 2000. They have slowly and surely whittled away at the Conservative fiber of the party until they created a full scale rebellion from within the very foundation itself.
Now they decide that there is suddenly a problem? We have been pleading with them since ‘94 to get a pair for a change. Instead, we got Trent Lott, Newt, Graham Bob Dole and other spineless wieners.
The Florida GOP has bought a clue and is working on a plan to defend Republican House seats, but I understand the FL Dem party is identifying vulnerable seats they hope to take away, and they have enthusiam and a bigger war chest to their advantage.
I still don’t see any evidence that the national GOP has figured anything out. They’ve convinced themselves that the evil specter of Hillobama is enough to frighten conservatives into backing McCain, but I don’t think the fearmongering is going to work this time. Over the long run, you have to win elections by being for something. Being not quite as bad as the other guys isn’t enough, especially when 49% of the electorate think the other guys are just fine.
Somebody posts a thoughtful article and you immediately reply with useless, negative nonsense. Are you planning on doing this non-stop for the next nine months?
As much as like Bob Dole better than McCain, McCain could not be a worse candidate than Dole if he tried. Dole never came close to Clinton in the polls before, during and after the primaries. Considering all that Clinton had going for him in 1996, it’s amazing that Dole was able to win nineteen states and get 41% of the popular vote.
I agree, the amount of anti-War, anti-Bushism in this country is huge. I think too many people on FR are totally unaware of it.

How so?
LOL are you serious you think we are not aware of it?
#6 Barack-O-mania has is peaking and has nowhere to go but down. Optimum result is Hussein still gets Dem nomination but the mania keeps subsiding for McVain to win
Hey, we aren't to blame. Conservatives aren't the ones who set the losing path for Republicans by voting for McCain.
RINOs left us in the cold, and now they are reaping what they sowed. If they wanted to defeat Obama, they should have given us someone who doesn't turn off the majority of the base.
There are any number of Freepers here who think McCain’s remark about staying in Iraq for 100 years and invading Iran are resume enhancers with the average voter.
It is just my humble opinion, that many here underestimate the amount of anti-Bush, anti-war feelings in the nation. I hate to see it. The anti-Bush, anti-war feelings have had a major backlash against the conservative movement. Many good members of Congress (i.e., Senators Santorum, Talent) lost their jobs because of it. I just hope that 2008 isn’t 2006.
