Syrian security forces have arrested several Palestinians suspects in connection with the assassination of Hizbullah commander Imad Mughniyeh, a Lebanese security source told Reuters on Friday.

The source added that Hizbullah had appointed a successor to Mughniyeh within hours of his death in a car bomb blast in the Syrian capital.

However, the follow up story is even more interesting:

'Non-Arabs arrested in Syria'

Syria also arrested non-Arab foreigners suspected of being involved in the assassination of Hizbullah terror chief Imad Mughniyeh this week, the Lebanese Al-Akhbar reported Saturday.

According to the report, senior Syrian government officials suspect that Western intelligence organizations were involved in the assassination.

The suspects' identities were still unknown.

Non-Arabs? Iranians? Pakistanis, Russians? Westerners?

For one short moment I dreamed that it was Obama's foreign policy advisor Zbigniew Brzezinski or Mrs Clinton's national finance Hassan Nemazee, who both visited President Assad in Damascus last week. According to the NY Sun the Democratic campaigns are very unforthcoming about the details of the visits.

Wow, you could knock me over with a feather, I can’t believe they didn’t try and pin it on Israel.

They, or somebody, that Lebanese Nasrallah at least, is naming Israel.

They already have blamed Israel, and I promise you that even if they would arrest Nassrallah himself, they would call him an Israeli agent.

Yeah, your right. They just went further away from Israel being solely responsible than I ever thought they would if they are including Palestinians in their arrested category.

“non-Arab foreigners” — of course, if it was a plot from some rival gang of Islamo-terrorists it will be even more important to be able to pin ultimate blame upon “Zionist agents” orchestrating it all..... would hate to be any of the “non-Arab foreigners” now being “interrogated” by Syrian intel goons — anyone would wish they could just be “waterboarded” instead of being handled by those goons.

The aim is never the real facts in such “investigations” by depraved Assad goons, the point is to concoct whatever propaganda story will be most useful.

I thought this was eyebrow-raising, too: An Iranian television station aired what it said was mobile phone video footage of the car bomb blast that killed Hezbollah commander Imad Mughniyeh...The grainy, dark images appeared to have been taken moments after the blast...The video was shown on Iran's state-run Arabic channel, Al-Alam. The station did not say how it obtained the footage.

True, but as I noted yesterday the thieves are falling out among each other:

Hizbullah Blames Hamas for Breach That Led To Mughniyeh Killing

And following the old adage that attack is the best defence, Hamas published this: 'Plot to kill Haniyeh uncovered'

Hamas on Saturday accused their rivals in the West Bank of being behind an alleged plot to assassinate a top Hamas official, and said they are less inclined now to try to mend the deepening rift between the two political camps.

Do you think Bush and Rice are paying notice?

Here is a link to the film: Video from mobile phone of aftermath of Mugniyah liquidation

Carl writes that his Arabic is poor but I think the subtitles are in Farzi and the commentator definitely speaks Italian.

As I wrote above, wouldn’t it have been fun if one of those non-Arabs would have been Zbigniew Brzezinski?

Reading that story from NYPost I must say that McCain looks better and better.....
