Bob,
Would you please post any response that you receive back from the Chamber of Commerce? I would like to see their reaction to the idea of the pro-military posters. Any actions the C of C takes will demonstrate whether or not there is any cohesion between the Chamber (in it’s representation of the city’s business community) and their business members. It is the Chamber’s job to be the pulse and mouthpiece of Berkeley’s businesses and they would be smart to get vocal and active on this issue and not just blow smoke.

I see that Publishers Group West (in Berkeley) has an easy contact form or an 800-788-3123 Toll Free, where you can reach them. I believe they are in bankrupcy which is a bummer. I think I’ll call and ask!
Of course. FWIW, don’t get your hopes up. Generally, most business’s don’t take a hard public position on issues of politics (or religion) because they aren’t in business to alienate large segments of their customer base. I think that is understandable.
However, this CofC thought enough of this issue to post a positive reference to it on the front page of their website, so I think there may be an opening.

OK...I suspect this is something everyone can get behind. A sponsor of the Marine Corps Marathon is Cliff Bar from Berkeley. Power Bar is a MUCH better choice!
I’d like to be added.
Former unhappy San Franciscan. Now happy Sonoma County-ian.
“I think I’ll call and ask!”lol:)
Thanks Drango. I just popped off an email to them with a question about their company’s position regarding all this. We’ll see how “easy” the contact is by whether or not they bother to respond.
How dare you say he doesn’t care.
Lady, I quote him. In case you missed it, he said, "I don't really care of all of Berkeley winds up like this:" He said he didn't care in his own words, so kindly redirect your indignation.
Let me get this straight. Cliff Bar is sponsoring the Marines, so you’re boycotting Cliff Bar because it’s headquartered in the wrong city? How freakin’ stupid can you be? You’re now boycotting people who are directly supporting the Marines!!!!!
How freakin stupid can you be...
I've not attacked you. I suggest you adjust your tone.
“...They taste like $h*T.”
lol...They actualy taste like hay and straw mixed with molasses and dung.
Power Bar should sponser the Camp Pendleton Mud Run in June.
Oh, he cares. Make no mistake about it.
Just not about those who support Berkeley.
I am IN - Thanks
Thanks!
So Berkeley thinks they’re making a real impact against the Marine Corps by telling them they are “not welcome”, along with issuing a parking permit for Code Pink to protest the local recruiting office. At the worst, they are making things inconvenient for maybe a couple of recruiters.
However, they got nothing on the hometown of another UC Campus, The City of Irvine, which has has screwed over thousands of Marines and veterans! Within that city’s limits is the former El Toro Marine Corps Air Station. The city of Irvine managed to rebuff a group of veterans that were lobbying the Navy to re-open the commissary and set aside the 1200 plus existing units of housing for local Marine families on the waiting list at Camp Pendleton.
Irvine wanted control of that valuable real estate so badly that they even resorted to having hired goon “Colonel” Tom O’Malley from the local anti airport NIMBY coalition (aka El Toro Reuse Planning Authority) threaten one of the veteran leaders with violence.
So top that Berkeley and Code Pink!
Seriously, Irvine should be boycotted as well!
Yes, but if the little guy is effected by the boycott
which is in reaction to the Berkeley government, that
little guy ain’t gonna vote for the same council to be
in power.
Just don’t send your kids to UCB, or don’t visit the
area or do business with those companies which are
supportive of the council. A good thing to do would be
to find out what companies paid for the obnoxious council
members campaign, and boycott those companies.
Now that actually makes sense. I could get behind that one.
I hereby promise to keep my lifelong habit of not going to Berkley. Of course I’ve never been to California so this is going to be an easy pledge to keep :)
will keep this list handy. thanks
