Count me as a Southern Baptist who thinks Huckabee is a jerk and who would have voted for Mitt.

Because he is by far the most intelligent of the candidates, I think Mitt would have done the best job of being POTUS.

Mitt needs to go to "Relaxation School" and he needs a hat and some boots.

I don't think there is a school that could take the hillbilly out of Huckabee!

yes.. it is doctrine.

Jesus and Satan.. and all of us are children of Heavenly Father. Jesus was the first born in the spirit as well as the only born to God the Father in the Flesh.

If a candidate running against John F. Kennedy for the Dem nomination had asked “Don’t Catholics think they LITERALLY eat the flesh and drink the blood of Christ?” do you think that would be an attack, or would it be a legitimate question to ask of a Presidential Candidate in the context of a Presidential election?

What do you think motivated Huckabee to ask that in reference to a Presidential nominee who is Mormon? Isn’t Huckabee supposed to be the one with a degree in “Religious Studies”? Mitt Romney hasn’t declared himself to be an expert on Mormon theology, and a presidential campaign is not the place to hash out theological differences; unless one IMPLICITLY wishes to use it as a wedge issue.

The Mormons may have a blind spot when it comes to their belief in the Book of Mormon, but they are not stupid enough to not recognize what Huckabee was trying to do. Are Huckabee supporters so stupid that they don’t know what he was trying to do, or are they lying?

Huck is doing damage to evangelicalism.

He ought to hush his silliness.

I believe I can say this, as I consider myself an evangelical.

They didn’t “not deny it”. The article was an excerpt, part of what was in it was the statement of what the Mormon church means when they say they were “brothers”.

Most Christians believe that Satan is the chief of the angels, and that angels are not the brothers of man.

The Mormons call all living things “brothers and sisters”, which is a terminology that most are not aware of.

But if you have looked into the Mormon faith enough to see that Jesus and Satan are “brothers”, it would take little more reading to realise that this statement does not have the meaning that they are on the same plane of existance or power.

I don’t agree with Mormon theology on this point, and I wouldn’t expect Huckabee to agree either.

But of all the things he could have said about the Mormon theology (like noting their rejection of the trinity), you have to ask why he singled out this one statement, and why he made it a point in an interview? Without context, the statement essentially labels Mormons “devil-worshippers”. That was clearly the intent of bringing it up, and Huckabee either should have known better, or if he stupidly did NOT, he should have quickly acknowledged his incorrect assessment of the Mormon faith.

Instead, he insists that he “meant no harm”, as if Huckabee thinks there would be nothing wrong with thinking Jesus and Satan are literally brothers.

Unless you believe that Mike Huckabee accepts the idea of Jesus and Satan as brothers, or thinks that is just peachy, you have to acknowledge that his statement was meant to turn his religious followers against Romney because of his faith.

Why else would you bring up a contentious point of religious faith in a POLITICAL INTERVIEW?

Thus, it was an attack on Romney for his religion. One that Huckabee is now scolding us for recognizing.

>> Imagine if someone said "don't Catholics believe in the cannibalizing of Christ". While not accurate it is "true" (notice the quotes) and used to invoke shock. And yes I've heard people say the cannibalize thing before against Catholics. <<

It depends on how you phrase the statement. Huckabee said "Doesn't the Mormon church teach that Jesus and Satan are brothers?" To me, this seems to be more of a bewildered question from Huck trying to claify Mormon doctrine that he was unsure of and sounded bizarre to him, than try to degenerate Mormons and attack them. He could have just as easily have said "I heard those Mormons actually teaches that Jesus is best of kin with Satan!" Notice the slight rephrasing of the words makes the statement much more damning.

Now, if say, Mitt Romney were to say about Giuliani's religion "Is it true that Catholics believe that they're literally drinking Christ's body and eating him?", it would sound like a perfectly normal question from someone who is bewildered and complexed by Catholic doctrine and doesn't understand it. (Gene Roddenberry said much the same thing about that growing up, and why he was an athetist, and it wasn't an attack on Catholicism but rather him just finding their doctrine completely bizarre). On the other hand, if Mitt Romney said about Giuliani "You know I hear Papists openly tell their members they're cannibalizing Christ", that's a sly little mean-spirited attack.

I don't think Huck's question crossed the line. Asking if Mormon doctrine teaches whether Jesus and Satan are brothers is a valid question that many Christians are confused about, and one that requires a lot of time to explain.

Huckabee said he was somewhat vague on Mormon doctrine and asked whether the Mormon church actually teaches that Jesus and Satan are brothers

Have you actually read the interview where this came up? Why would Huckabee have been asking some reporter detailed questions about Mormon theology? And do you think he felt that was a normal, useful thing to believe?

Why would he "wonder" about that in a political interview, EXCEPT for that he felt equating Jesus and the Devil would enrage christians and help Huckabee beat Romney?

I'd like to know under what context a christian preacher who has been calling himself the "christian" candidate could say that Jesus and Satan were brothers that would NOT sound like an attack on the Mormon faith.

FACT: Mormons do believe that Jesus and Satan are "spirit brothers".

FACT: Mormons do believe that Jesus and Satan are "spirit brothers".

FACT: Mormons do believe that Jesus and Satan are "spirit brothers".

Huckabee scolded border security as non-Christian. Scolded about eating twinkies after he stopped.

This Arkansan has been scolded by Huckabee so many times, that it becomes a droning buzz.

If he had come out and said it that way, it would have been impossible to later deny he meant any harm.

Stating bad things in the form of a question is a time-worn political trick to attack people without having to take the blame for it. “But I was just asking a question, I didn’t really know it would be such a big deal”....

“Jesus and Satan.. and all of us are children of Heavenly Father” . . .

Are you not a Mormon, and validating this teaching?

Mormons believe that Jesus and Satan were brothers. Satan was a fallen angel. Therefore, Mormonism teaches that Jesus was an angel, a creation.

This is absolutely NOT Christian teaching!

Mitt is out of the race. Let’s quit sewing discord and let it go already. According to Mormons, all the rest of us are heretics that is a basic tenet. So let’s move on and stop finding victims where there are none.
