I actually belonged once to a church where the pastor had embezzled money. The congregation forgave him and he remained the pastor. Leftist thinking at it’s worst. No punishment, except to pay back the money, as everyone involved liked the guy. Break the law? No problem.

Well, of course, the first mistake the Anglican Church made was in failing to require that the leader of their church be an actual Christian.
That seems to be a common failing in several of their American Episcopal Churches, too.
