This coming Tuesday, February 19, PBSs respected Frontline will air its examination of what really happened in Haditha, the shows introduction saying thats what we should expect of the program.
The show doesnt meet that goal, and can be criticized for what it does and doesnt include, meriting a grade of B-. That means, the show is definitely worth watching, and deserves a passing grade.
Necessary to a full understanding of Haditha, none but a very few have read or remember the hundreds of pages of Haditha Article 32 hearings, the hundreds of serious newspaper articles and blog posts examining the unfolding of the known facts, or have personal training and experience in combat. Frontlines Rules of Engagement about the Haditha events may be as close as most will come.

I am no great defender of PBS, but if you saw the Frontline in which they reviewed the Rwandan genocide and destroyed the Clinton administration in the process, you wouldn’t pre-judge them. And by the way, if you have never seen that episode, it is a MUST watch.
“The remaining court martials, set to begin in March, of SSgt Wuterich and LCpl Tatum are for reduced charges, and the prosecutions case appears weak as evidenced by a last minute scurrying to Iraq to reinterview Iraqis in hope of strengthening their case.”
In other words, charges that “There was no fire fight” (John Murtha) and ‘Time’s’ depiction of the affair as the new “Mi Lai” they have been eagerly waitng for have been proven false. So instead of folding the tent and getting a life these DOD office weanies feel compelled to get any piece of crap they can on whoever they can (i.e., “reduced charges”) to preclude further embarrassment to the “honorable” John Murtha and our pathetic press.

Bruce Kesler scored a coup in getting this advance screening. Sounds like there'll be lots of new information coming out in the broadcast. Among other things, McGirk maintains he had used the Hammaurabi Human Rights group before Haditha for information.
PBS did a series called “They Made America” that is as pro-capitalist and pro-market a series as I’ve ever seen. They even had a quip about Ida Rosenthal, inventor of the Maidenform Bra, being an ex-socialist in Russia, and once she came to America, she became a revolutionary for capitalism.
Thanks for the ping! It sounds like Kesler is satisfied that the movie isn’t a sucker punch from the left, and that can only be a good thing. I wish that you were given a sneak preview, though.
My fear is that they present some type of disinformation that will injure Wuterich, Tatum, Chessani, or Grayson in a bad light.
My fear is that they present some type of disinformation that will injure Wuterich, Tatum, Chessani, or Grayson BY PLACING THEM in a bad light.
I share your concern.
Yes it is! And a well deserved bonus.
Hey, that’s great, smooth! Many thanks for letting me know!
I love it when you get popular.
Hey, look who’s back! Are you home now or just taking a break from your break?
MCGIRK!!!!!!!!!!!!!
