A natural gas pipeline in Luzerne County exploded early Monday.

It happened around 4 a.m. in Moutain Top. Smoke and flames from the blaze could be seen from the distance.

Crews were able to cut off the flow of gas and get the fire out sometime after 5 a.m.

The blast was in the area of Route 437 and Church Road in Wright Township.

About 10 homes in Wright Township were evacuated by emergency officials because of the fire.

There is no word on the cause of the blast. The FBI has been called in to help in the investigation.

Residents were allowed back into their homes about two hours after the blast.
